Down to Lmt/CQB16 or Colt 6920 ?

After banging my head on this for longer than I wanna admit. It comes down to one of these 2… Lmt/cqb16 or the Colt 6920… I can get either for around the same price. Any and all opinions appreciated. Thanks

If you think you might want to go with a piston system at some time or SBR the lower, go with the LMT.

I chose the LMT over the Colt.

The CQB16 MRP comes “standard” with the LMT SOPMOD stock, a free-floating rail as part of the MRP (with handguard panels included), and an Ergo grip. The 16" barrel has a mid-length gas system, which appeals to me.

Its rail-mounted iron sights and quick-change barrel system offer non-armorer, non-gunsmith me a way to re-configure the gun as I learn it without having to spend a lot of extra money on tools or gunsmith work. And as Grant mentioned, there’s the piston upgrade option if you think you’d ever want to go that route.

At the time I ordered the LMT, its price was $1500, versus $1600-$1800 for the Colt. Now the Colts seem to be available for $1200-$1500, but I still couldn’t buy one of those and add a quality free-floating rail and rail-mounted iron sights for the cost of the LMT.

Given that this is my first and only AR for a while, I wanted the versatility and appreciated the value of the enhancements that come standard with the LMT. Your feelings may be different, but now you have my two cents worth.

For the same price I would go with MRP LMT over the Colt as well.

I would also choose the LMT, mainly for the 2 main reasons mentioned above… The piston upgrade and the user friendly barrel change… I’ve been looking at the MRP CQB and or Rifle upper as I would probally want to start with a 16" barrel and eventually get their 18" 5.56 barrel in SS… It’s not advertised in their new catalog I just got, but have seen they offer it somewhere… Their new catalog does show that barrel (18" SS) in .204 Ruger, but that doesn’t really appeal to me, however the 6.8 might be an optional setup for that rifle platform… It has alot more going for it than a 6920 in my opinion… I wouldn’t mind having a 6940 though for the collection… Rock.

I would get the LMT for all the reasons posted above. I myself am thinking of purchasing a CQB upper in 6.8mm for my complete Defender 2000. The LMT is a quality rifle.
I am somewhat confused by your statement that the LMT CQB 16 and the 6920 are the same price. The 6920 is now selling at under $1200 while LMT CQB 16 is over $1700. Are you perhaps looking at the Colt 6940 which also has the upper receiver with the monolithic rail?

Get the 6920. Every able bodied citizen should own one or more. Then, if you feel the “call” for another…get something else or even another 6920.

I have the 6920, 6940 and MRP in 5.56. I really like the MRP, I think it offers a value at its suggested selling price. It also has a nice added benefit in being able to change either caliber, or barrel length in a very simple manner (provided you upgrade your wrench).

Oddly enough, lately I have been shooting my 6940 with a CQT, and am growing to really like the rifle. I raped the SOPMOD from my 6.8 MRP and the rifle is very well balanced with the new stock.

The 6920 is a great rifle, especially if you want to add your own touches to it and make it your own… I think its hard to go wrong with either rifle.

I would save your money until LMT gets the specs right on the 6.8, they still are building 1/10 barrels and haven’t upgraded their chambers… I am sure they will get around to it, I just wish they would hurry the blank up…

Roger that…
It will probably be awhile until I can afford anMRP upper since I purchased another BCM 16" 410 SS middy upper that was about the same price. By the time I do, it’ll start off as 5.56mm and at $500.00 per barrel from LMT for that platform. When the time comes that I can afford the 6.8 barrel, they should have the chamber set right (I hope) Since I reload, I should be able to work up some match grade ammo fairly cost efficient … A little off topic. Both the 6920/40 and MRP are both excellent weapons and either will serve ya well… I like the fact that one can change out a barrel without having to buy a bunch of armorer’s tools (but I love tools also) even if I do have to fix/modify their barrel wrench… My opinion only of course!! Rock

I bought a 6920 about 2 weeks ago from Tanners for $1200 shipped and the thing is flawless. I took it apart as soon as I got it home and couldnt find a single issue (this coming froma noob so take it for what its worth).

That said I would like a LMT or Noveske for my next rifle. Those three manufacturers seem to be all I will consider.
