Ive had a double star for about a year now and Ive had 0 rifle related problems. But i bought it back when I knew little about ar’s.
I cant seem to find any of the specs for the actual rifle out there.
Im mainly looking for properties of the bcg and barrel, or anything that isnt necessarily visible to the naked eye
You have identified the biggest issue.
There are no specs or consistency.
This is one of the reasons that you see wildly varying opinons of them- one guy might get one with decent individual components assembled decently and it will work fine, but another guy will get one with a bad component or multiple issues that suffers from numerous issues, and another guy might get one that was assembeled poorly that will suffer from problems though the individual components might be acceptable.
Consistency and adherance to some standard is what turns many people to other options on the market.
F2S is right as usual. A lot of these companies do not publish specs for a reason. This should be viewed as a “clue!”
You might have a good AR or just haven’t shot it enough to find out any issues.
Just as an FYI, ALL AR’s malfunction. Typically because of bad mags, lack of PM’s or not cleaning/lubricating the weapon properly (stupid user tricks).

A clue for what?
For low quality.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Ive put exactly 2k down range without a problem, but quality is and reliability is must for me. I was considering a bcg from bcm or spikes with an Hbuffer. Ive honestly never heard anything bad about dbstar but ive never read about any serious specs either. I guess what it boils down to is will it be worth it to spend the coin on a bcg and buffer?
Have you considered contacting them? If it’s working for you then leave it alone. If you are concerned then get a BCM BCG and H buffer and call it a day.
And if you are really concerned ream the chamber with Ned Christiansen’s chamber reamer.
But IG is right.
if quality & reliability is a must for you ,dump it & buy a rifle that is,BCM,DANIEL DEFENSE,SABRE DEFENSE,LMT.
Call J&T Dist. and ask of your concerns. Know plenty of DS rifles and builds in different arsenals and have not heard of any complaints. Personally have 6920, M6A2, N4 Basic among others and my DSC4 hangs right in there.
Well considering I live about 30min from their facility I might pay them a visit if time permits
Thanks for all the input.
What to do? Well if you are after a Mil-Spec weapon (or above), then sell it or keep it as a back up.
If it was my weapon, I would do the following:
- Check chamber to make sure it is 556 NATO.
- Buy a spare bolt (LMT or BCM).
- Make sure that the gas key is staked correctly.
- Make sure that the castle nut is staked correctly.
- Buy a BCM bolt upgrade kit.
- Add an H or H2 buffer.
- Change out the buffer spring.
If you contact the manufacturer about the barrel steel specs, what (if any) HPT/MP testing they do on the bolt and barrels, be prepared for them to either not know, tell you it isn’t needed or give you the standard line of “its mil-spec.”
Ask to see the cert for the barrel steel and MP testing.

1,3,4,6 are all good to go. As far as swapping out the spring where can I find a heavier spring? Another question, what does having the barrel mpi/hpt do for the functionality aspect of the barrel or does it just insure durability? As well as the material its made of( 4150 vs B-11595E)?
