Double Platinum At 14, Dead At 34...

Chris Kelly, of Hip-Hop Duo Kris Kross, Dies at 34

Out of the millions who dream about having musical careers, to say nothing of ones so successful at such a young age Chris Kelly was one of those rare few. And despite such a rare opportunity and significant advantage still managed to fuck it all up in the Whitney Houston tradition.

Good job dumbass, it’s a shame you were actually talented.

I fail to see talent, but RIP just the same…

Granted they were largely the product of their producer, but not just every 14 year old kid can make record a catchy hit that goes double platinum. Even with their retarded fashions I still liked those two kids back when.

And when the fame went away it seemed Kelly made some sound decisions like learning studio engineering and starting his own production company.

But in the end coke is a helluva drug and it has brought down better men than he.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug…

H ain’t exactly child’s play.

I think Bieber will follow the same path. Contrast them with someone like Taylor Swift… that girl is making money on top of money. She’s going to be like a Martha Stewart of the music business. She’s pretty much a no drama money machine.

Well, consider it … when you achieve this level of success and affluence at an early age, who are your peers, exactly? Pretty much only those who have done the same, and collectively, these folks are reasonably certain to be infusing illegal drugs into their lifestyles. Maybe it keeps them going. Maybe it lets them find a sense of solace. Maybe they are just weak of character, and therefore subject to the same pitfalls as the bums sleeping under the bridges in the city. All I know for certain it that they never seem to learn.

I’ve often wondered about this phenomenon, though, especially as it pertains to superstars like Michael Jackson. I mean, that poor guy was the King of the World for so long, that there was absolutely no way that he could ever find a true peer friendship with anyone. Surrounded by enablers and trapped by his own childish impulses, there was nowhere to go but down. Brilliant, but hopelessly-flawed.

I prefer to remember Whitney Houston singing the Star-Spangled Banner at Superbowl XXV. That was a true gift to the nation, and a moment of human triumph. The rest of her life was, sadly, a vicious train wreck.

And on and on it goes.

Entertainers, in general, rank pretty low on my GAF list. Rappers rank at the very bottom of that group.

Nothing wrong with rap at all, grandpa. Try being a little more open minded, a lot of rapper would agree with you on abortion, social issues, and guns.

The problem here is an addict overdosed, and somehow that’s ultra sad because at 14 he was popular. Oh he had a troubled childhood where he had all the money he ever needed though! Oh fuck off, I have almost zero demise when addicts OD - choice is a fucking hell of a drug.

You see this all to often with celebrites, athletes and entertainers. They are famous, have a shit ton of money, they got the world by the ass on a downhill pull and then through whatever outside influence they screw the whole deal up with drugs. Be it socially expected by their peers, pressure from a manager, a swarm of hangers on with their palm out looking for theirs, whatever it is. Still sad to see someone die from this.

Problem is they start believing their own press because there’s nobody around to tell them “no”…

So is success. Too much too fast can ruin people.

So true. Don’t want to upset the gravy train…

Nothing wrong with having a opinion on rappers at all either, dawg

“Open minded” doesn’t mean you have to like, appreciate, or respect everything, despite what your PBS after school shows told you.

I’m scurrying to log this tragic news in my book of who gives a shit.

I was talking about my dislike of hip hop, which IMO sucks. And my age has nothing to do with it.

Till she has a successful relationship with a man (or woman) and can’t write good break up songs.

I think the “polished up” Whitney was the exception to her true nature. She married Bobby Brown on purpose and it was because they had a lot in common.

Regarding Jackson, I think if you reach a certain level of wealth you are no longer held accountable by your peer group. Everybody wants Elvis to give them a new Cadillac so they aren’t gonna tell him he’s out of line for shooting TVs and everyone wants to be on the Michael Jackson money train so they are gonna tell him a sleepover for all his junior high “friends” is a wonderful idea.

Incredible wealth also frees a persons true nature and with virtually no social inhibitors of any kind you become who you actually are and that often isn’t very pretty, especially when you couple it with the usual paranoia that you have no “real friends” and people are just out to get you and your money.

Childhood stars have generally been plagued by short careers that stop since we’ve had childhood stars. Just look at pretty much all the kids who were on Different Strokes. Those who are capable of being wise at that age and lucky enough to not have their parents and other managers rob them blind, put it away for the future and have a plan for “what’s next” when their TV show or music career ends.

But if you can’t even avoid the “easy ones” like staying away from coke and heroin, you really didn’t have much of a chance anyway.

Whitney said it best with, “Crack is whack, yo.”

I was shocked by this news.
