I had an East German AK today that was in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, the protective wings on the FSB were completely torn off and the sight post was missing.
Since we can’t afford to scrap a weapons unless absolutely necessary I had to replace the FSB. Now I have seen some shitty jobs in my time, but this one takes the cake.
Strangely enough when I put the “new used” FSB on, it lined up and the pins went in good. I need to shoot it to ensure it’s good to go, but thus far it seems fine with my Mk 1 MOD 0 eye ball.
Actually the weapon had never been touched before as far as I could tell. Which means that Hans and Franz had too much beer in the socialist paradise of East Germany when they were working the machines.
Friday afternoon guns made in Germany? Nice! We’re not alone in wanting to bail on work, kick off the weekend, hit the bar and look at chicks. Obviously, that guy had something better to do than finish up that gun properly. Hope he got some tail that night!
The last time I helped someone change a battery in a Jetta, I believe it had no less than 8 bolts holding the battery down, and the owner’s manual prescribed taking it in to a VW dealer to have it done. I think I only fastened two bolts back down when I was done.
I bought a 20 ton A-Frame to convince just such objects that the path of least resistance is far preferable to what will happen if I do not get the cooperation I desire.
Parts that piss me off die by the press. It’s like Death himself hanging around in the garage. Part fucking better work. Or else.
You no doubt must have a convincing hammer strike.
I would love to help you out at that armory. I would gladly take all the shitty tasks, just to cut my teeth and to earn a place. If there was a way, I’d be there.
And the fact that it went on straight is even more impressive. With perfectly parallel pin grooves and a flawless FSB I’m positive I could install it at least 15 degrees off center.
