does anyone make a low profile cobra belt? i was looking at the SOE cobra belt but the buckle looks blocky and i carry AIWB. i really like how the buckle allows easy on and off but does anyone make one with a thinner less blocky buckle? the VTAC riggers belt and the buckle looks slimmer but it it a riggers belt and i have no need for the triangle rigger that comes sewn into it.
Cobra belts, use Cobra (Austri Alpin) buckles. Thus the name, so any real Cobra belt will use the same buckle.
The SOE belt is nice. I wear a lot of BKE jeans and I don’t have to remove the buckle but when I wear Levi’s I have to remove one side. I wear mine daily for about a month now and I enjoy it.
While not a cobra belt. Check out Volund gearworks Atlas belt, it has a nice low profile.
+1 on the Volund Gearworks.
I appendix carry as well and the attachment is VERY low pro.
Carrying AIWB with a Cobra buckle prints horribly on me.
As a bonus its $50. Cheap compared to some belts out there.

Look at the DSG Arms Alpha belt. It’s thinner than a typical cobra buckle style belt. I also have a jones tactical belt with the cobra buckle. I use the DSG Alpha much more often. I wear it as an inner belt under my duty belt at work every day.
I’ll second the Volund Gearworks Atlas belt as well. Very quick turnaround, and very solidly made. Matt’s a good guy and makes good gear.
I’ve used one for 13 months and it looks almost new. I’ve got belts from TAG, The Wilderness, Tactical Tailor and others just hanging in the closet.
if you have them on size 32, be glad to send my shipping address ![]()
thanks for sharing this company, I wasn’t aware until today.
I have to Atlas belts and it’s all I use for AIWB. I just got an HSGI cobra belt for OWB wear and the correct size is way to long, it’s going back to be modified.
Wilderness casual flyer is a pretty lo-profile and very comfortable riggers type belt http://www.thewilderness.com/?p=catalog&parent=142&pg=1. This is just me but, I dont like the square buckle types of some belts for EDC use.
Up1911fan I am having the same problem with mine. Did they just charge you to ship it back to them to modify it? I’ve had mine since April and I have just been living with it by tucking the runner under my badge.
They told me to tape it off where I needed it changed and to send it in and they would take care of it. I wrapped it in blue painters tape where I wanted the tail shortened and some of the velcro removed as it went way to far back. I just sent it back today so i’ll let you know how it goes.
I wear either a Volund or an Ares Gear belt depending on the day. The Ares Gear has a fairly low profile cobra buckle.

I need to send my HSGI back as well for it being to long
If youre set on a 24mm cobra buckle: I talked to Rich Jones of Jones Tactical a while back, IIRC, about a belt he was supposedly going to put into production, basically his 1.5" EDB without SCUBA webbing underneath the female Cobra buckle specifically so that it would cut down on the profile of the belt, like you want. Id contact him if you really want to pursue a thinner Cobra setup, though Id expect to pay and pay well and wait quite a while before receiving the product- far as I know he’s still a one man shop. I would also look at CTOMS if I were set on a lowpro 24mm Cobra, or I would consider getting some Type 7 4088 webbing and a dual adjustable 24mm Cobra from ParaGear and maybe some Acetal triglides/ladder locks from my local REI and just making my own for much less money, in much less time. Would probably be a much less secure platform for holsters though.
But I dont think you should be set on a Cobra belt. Theyre cool, sure. But Id trade a few of mine for a Volund Atlas if I werent so lazy/poor.
I have a 1.5" width belt made by endeavor stitch which used a cobra frame buckle. It’s really slick, I totally love it. Looking to find someone who can make me a few more.
I’ve been using a Wilderness five stitch Instructor belt for years, but I find myself tempted by the various Cobra offerings. In particular, the Talon Tactical model looks similar to my trusty Wilderness but has the added convenience of the Cobra during the day. The Talon doesn’t look like it ‘doubles up’ under the Cobra buckle like many of the other designs on the market. On the other hand, Volund Gearworks is also offering their own version of the Atlas with a Cobra buckle, which merits consideration…
Nice to have options.
I just simply offset the buckle to 10 o’clock, or over the left pocket. Didn’t start doing this until the beginning of the year when I started carrying my reload at 11 o’clock AIWB.
i’ve used one of john’s cobra belts pretty much every day for the last 4 years. That being said. I cannot stand AIWB carry, with or without this belt. You do have to offset the holster a little more wearing a cobra belt. Maybe i’d like it more if i didn’t use the cobra belt… but i love my cobra belt so i’ll get over not being able to carry AIWB. I’ve carried at 4’oclock most of my life, so my muscle memory is set to that anyways.
Like i said. I’ve used this belt for the last four years. Short of the scrapings on the buckle it’s not showing any signs of wear. I love it. The mostest.
