Does anybody have experience with Mec Gar 8 round magazines?

If so, how are they? I think it’s strange that nobody ever talks about them.

I have a few for my SA. They work fine as do the Wilson, Shooting Star, GI and the originals. I don’t shoot 10,000 rds per month or year so can’t say if any if them last longer than the others. But MecGars seem well made.

I but them for the 1911 because i have a BHP and the MecGars for it are top notch.

I have two that I picked up because they were dirt-cheap on sale (from CDCC I think). One had out of spec feed lips (too tight) and I tend to have more feed problems with mine, compared to other mfg mags that I use. However, for general range use they are fine.

Have used them in the past, no issues, I remember being told that they were OEM for Colt, not sure of truth to that, but knowing Mec Gar, it is more than possible. Still have half a dozen Colt marks mags that I think are Mec Gars made for Colt, if that is true, that I keep with my Colt Double Eagle. Never had an issue with them and sort of wish I could go back and buy more from CDNN when they had them cheap. Usually run CMC mags and Wilson. In fact the only 1911 mags that I have had issues with have been old mil surp mags and ACT mags.

They’re OEM for most mfgrs.

Pretty much what I thought, but I can never be sure as they do make a lot for a number of others and I can’t keep up with them all.

I have several. All but one work flawlessly.

That was from Mec Gar’s website. I do know my Walther PPQ’s mags are Mec Gar and so are my Sig P229’s. Likely not all models from all the gun makers, just some or most.

Are they working well in full size guns or compact/sub compact guns?

(I’m not going to buy any, but we should have a thread on it, with some decent amount of information in case anybody does a search on it.)

I had 4 that came with a gun. Was totally unimpressed. Cracked lips at rear on one almost immediately. Sold the rest.

They make a great mag for Beretta 92, BHP, and CZ75 in my experience.

If I had to guess who is making Colt’s mags, it would be Metalform.

Sorry to belabor the point, but the listing on the web site is just the models and manufacturers for which they make mags, not those which ship with MecGar mags. Regardless, as I said earlier, they are decent mags for the money and, for me, they’ve worked okay as range mags. Magic, I haven’t used that brand in my Officer framed Colt, so have no opinion on compact/subcompact 1911 mags (all my “short” mags are Checkmate or rebanded Checkmates). FWIW, I have found that mag spring kits from Tripp can make old (or inferior) 1911 mags as good as or better than new.
