I’m under the impression it was designed specifically around SBR-type DI guns. Does that mean that companies like LWRC, POF, Desert Tech etc. will never be able to effectively utilize it? Does it provide enough energy for all the moving parts to cycle correctly?
LWRCi’s 300BLK offering was a gas gun if that tells you anything.
It doesnt play well with pistons in the AR platform. I know Robert Silvers explained why a while ago, but I cant find it right now. Something about pressure dropping to quickly for the piston to cycle. He had a great explanation of it.
It would probably work if you shot suppers only- subs definately will not work not enough gas. Ever seen an AK runs subs? Neither have I.
Yup I think that about sums it up.
I built my 12.5 inch 300 with an Adams Arms piston mainly because I had it laying around. I have experimented with various loads, 110 grain, 125, 130 grain, 200 grain, 220 grain, some loaded hot, some loaded light. They all functioned. In fact, I have never had a failure to function which I find amazing.
Pistol-length gas system? Any other mods like a light buffer or Adams low mass carrier?

considering that blackout runs at about a third the pressure of 5.56, I don’t see why a piston would be necessary. Typically, people go to pistons because they are cleaner. But I can tell you, blackout already runs pretty clean because of it’s considerably smaller powder charge. The inherent properties of the caliber negate a lot of the benefits you would get from a piston system.
Thought I’d share this with anyone who wanted to know why I was curious…

Very interesting… now I just want an MDR even more
As far as I know, PWS is the only company producing a piston AR as factory original equipment.
