Do M4A1 SOCOM barrels have less suppressor shift?

Tried to search and couldn’t find any info…

I’m building a new 14.5 pinned upper with a RIS II rail, and since it will spend some time suppressed wanted as little suppressor shift as possible. I’ve read that LW barrels have pretty extreme shift, so would the heavier profile- or more consistently heavy profile- lend to less POI shift with a can?

Yes. It’s just simple more sturdy and will sag less with a 1 lb weight on end of barrel. That simple.

My experience is a bit skewed, but my amount of POI shift was virtually the same between my Block II upper with the SOCOM profile barrel and a 16" SR15E3 with the skinny barrel used with the same KAC NT4 suppressor. This was checked at both 50 and 200 with a 4x ACOG on both.

On accasion , a suppressor will throw the round up. POI usually goes down because of weight, but you never know till you fire it. Markm’s can does this.

Thanks for the info guys, seems like it’s still up in the air. I’d prefer a middy gov profile over the M4A1 but if it could make a big difference suppressed… hopefully more have experience they can share.

It’s beefier, so should deflect less and have less POI shift from that when viewed in large sample sizes. Sample sizes of 1 may vary significantly.

Honest answer is a Noveske N4 profile, or the Centurion Lite CHF Middy’s are in the same weight range, but should be better in that regard since they don’t have a narrow section to accommodate mounting M203’s.

I like my SOCOM barreled 14.5" upper, but the weight doesn’t feel like it’s in the right place - it’s the same overall weight as my 16" Recce w/ URX 3.1 on it, and obviously isn’t going to compete for precision accuracy.

Thanks for that, I was looking at the Centurion middy’s but PSA got some HF M4A1 barrels in today so I ordered one- we’ll see how it works out. I’m looking at picking up a Surefire or AAC Mini to throw on it, once I do I’ll post my findings.
