I searched all over, and can’t find that this question has ever been asked. Do I really need a handguard? If I put that grip dealy or got the lower with the grip built in the front of the magwell, couldn’t I drop alot of weight be simply eliminated the handguard alltogether and just shooting the rifle with both hands on the receiver? I have mike tyson T-rex arms and run my vert grips just in front of the magwell anyway, so it’s comfortable for me (forget that new, monkey armed thumb on top, left elbow straight grip). Questions, concerns, comments? Maybe a little chunk of an old, cut up CF rail section on the barrel nut just in case I slip to keep the burn away?
you could but it puts the gas tube at risk of damage if you drop your rifle or hit the gas tube.
No, you don’t need to have a handguard. They are not required by any federal or state law that I am aware of. The BATF won’t come after you if you don’t have one. Yes, you’ll save seven to ten ounces without it. Since you have Mike Tyson T-Rex arms, I say go for it. Please post pics of you manipulating your carbine and firing away at the range. Especially if you have just completed a rapid fire drill/mag dump and are at Port Arms. Good luck!
Um…what handguards are you currently using that are so heavy? Both hands on the receiver is a pretty unstable platform. Look at how much barrel is in front of the receiver.
This has to be a Troll Thread. Either this is deliberatly unserious or the OP doesn’t have a fucking clue what he is doing.
If you have Mike Tyson arms, you can easily stand the weight of a set of Handguards.
They say there are no stupid questions but I say this thread proves to every rule there are exceptions.
The answer should be,
“Do you need third degree burns?”
Then, thread closed.
If you are have t Rex I wouldn’t let 7-17 ounces keep me from having a hand guard. You risk damaging parts and plus if you are using a free float rail it works as a heat sink and keeps parts cooler…
This is really silly and lacks common sense.
OP,
I don’t know what T-rex arms are. In any case if your rifle/carbine is too heavy, then I suggest working out or a different weapon. If you have a basic set up, weight shouldn’t be such an issue.
