Do Guys upgrade their Colts with Crane O rings?

Guys,

A year or so ago, Grant tweaked my BM BCG and set me up with a Crane O ring.

I have since purchased three Colts.

Do Colt, LMT, and Noveske owners do this upgrade too? Or is it only recommended for rifles from those manufacturers that do not rate well on the chart?

The O-ring is an upgrade along with the 5coil spring and denser black buffer for the carbine gas system. It dosent matter the maker and if one of the top guys let it slip out without it is cheap insurance.

+1 on what shihan said.
But I thought Colt installed the CRANE upgrade in the bolts at the factory.
All my LMT BCG’s came with the CRANE oring, spring and black buffer.Come to think of it all my Armalite uppers that came with BCG’s had the upgrade as well, including the 20" uppers.Thats how I found out that the CRANE oring can cause issues with rifle length uppers.Too much extractor tension can become a problem on the rifles.

I use the Bravo Company upgrade kit which comes with a 5-coil Chrome Silicon extractor spring so I do not use the O-ring (I also use the Black insert).

If I’m using the Crane kit, I use the O-ring.

I have not had any problems with either of my 6920’s, but I also have not done any high round-count shooting sessions with them in a while.

I have a new Colt 6920.Are these upgrades something that should be done immediately?

Personally, I would take it to the range a couple times in it’s original form to make sure there are no other problems.
It should be reliable out of the box. Some products however offer a longer life, resistance to heat, resistance to fatigue or breakage, etc.

*I believe if you buy a 6920 from G&R Tactical, Grant has already put the Crane System in the gun by the time you receive it.

I did not get it from Grant.I have not had a chance to take it to the range yet but will be doing so next weekend. After that I will look into doing the upgrades.Man,this new addiction to AR 15’s is getting expensive.

I only use the o-ring as a corrective measure if there are extraction problems. As a field fix for a gun with the wrong spring/insert, or even for a gun with the right spring/insert that’s still having problems.

In 4 5.56 Colts I’ve never had a problem extracting whether shooting Wolf, XM193, or Black Hills. I have put thousands of rounds of Wolf through my Colts.
