Do any of you use an o-ring with your Sprinco 5-coil extractor spring?

Title says it all. Do you? About to install this in my rifle, and Sprinco says it’s not necessary, but can be done.

Any insight on if either way functions better or if it matters at all?

Use one or the other.

Enhanced power extractor springs, or an o-ring with a standard one.

FWIW, I currently use the copper colored Colt extractor spring & the green SA one.

Nope. I pretty much quit using o-rings altogether because most of my springs are 5-coil.

Two things I never use in my extractors are.

  1. O rings, and

  2. Springco nonsense.

Makes it a serious pain to get the pin in and out. Not needed.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. I’ll leave it out!

And the extractor insert…that goes in too? This is the first time I’ve messed with the internals of a bolt, so I apologize for the newbish questions.

The bottom line is you want the correct amount of extractor tension.

There are several ways to get there and some ways are “more equal” than others.

The O-ring is a band aid and I generally refrain from using them. Regardless of markm’s thoughts on the Springco stuff they have been 100% for me.

The Sprinco springs loose some of that “can’t push the pin in” tension once you shoot them for a while.

I use the Colt “gold” spring (really copper colored). It works perfectly, and is designed for the system. It is not “over-stressed” like many aftermarket springs. It is a much better solution than the band-aid of an O-ring. O-rings get chewed up, can harden in the cold and cause issues, etc.
