Do all bag/backpack?

Been looking for a bag or backpack that I can use for when I go shooting with my sons to carry all sorts of gear. It will also double as a hunting pack and also a just need to carry a bunch of crap around bag.

Been looking at Maxpedition, BFG, Eagle Industries, Hawkepacks, and just about every other maker as well. Anyone have a favorite?

What’s your budget?

Like to keep it under $150.

Eagle A-III is a good option that’s around your price point - I’ve got one that I’ve been using as my go-to bag for about six years. It doesn’t have a lot of features, but it’s well made and durable.

Right around that price is the ATS Raid II

And just under that is the 5.11 Rush 72

Tough to beat an AIII or similarly designed 3-day. Maxpedition makes some useful models. People say good things about the BFG DAP, though it may be a little small for you depending on what you’re carrying.

How discreet does it need to be? Mil color okay? External PALS?

The pack definitely does not need to be discreet, kinda like the multicam look of some bags I have seen. Don’t really want black though. Like I said it is mainly going to be used I guess more like a range bag and occasionally used for other purposes. Really like it also if it was made in the USA.

In your price range, and American made, Camelbak, ATS, Eagle and Bugout gear should fit your needs.

LBT, too, with smart shopping.

An option. Save a ton of money to put towards other things - probably not US made and currently only available in black - but others lurking on the thread may be interested. Other packs mentioned will be better quality but not sure 5x worth.

i have a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack that I use for just about everything. It’s my daily carry/go-to if the house is on fire I’d save my wive and the bag (torch, FAK, handgun, ammo, raincoat, ID, spare keys, prepaid cell phone, and a thumb-drive with me and my immediate family’s critical information). works great as my range / hunting bag too. Only thing I don’t like about it is the lack of water bladder, so i still use my camelbak for turkey / deer hunting.

If it’s just a general use and hunting pack is there any reason you have to go with a tactical nylon company? There are tons of good backpacks out there for cheap, they just aren’t made by companies elbows deep in PALS webbing.

ATS Cobra pack is a nice little do all pack.

I’ve got two of them. One has been used by my sone for a few years in grade school. That is the ultimate pack test environment.

+1 on the Eagle A-III

They are indeed worth 5x more, and then some. LAPG nylon gear is light duty stuff. Spend a dollar once.

Beware of false economy. Good and cheap should rarely be in the same sentence. Being far afield on a hunt is a bad place to have a stitching blow.

I’ve had two Eagle A-IIIs (first one lost to thieves who needed a way to carry the other shit they stole form my house:mad:) and couldn’t be happier with the bag as a go-anywhere, do anything, general purpose. I highly recommend the accessory pouch set and if you get a few of them you can keep them packed in various ways for various needs. I have one I keep as my toiletry kit, for example. I have thought of setting up a pair with cleaning supplies in one and various tools in the other for range use.

I’ve considered getting the internal frame too but haven’t seen one in person yet to decide for sure.

I’ve carried my “khaki” bag onto planes, around hotels, etc. and never noticed a sideways glance. Sometimes it’s a little bit too big as a weekender bag and I wish Eagle made one a little smaller but that was still compatible with the accessory pouches that I could use as an overnighter or weekender.

I believe TT makes a 2/3 size AIII type.

Yep, I have 3 and they are all kitted differently so I am not always having to redo packs and they are great.
I am having a Kifaru X-Ray made and am really looking forward to it. I love bags.

Yeah… you’re the one who recommended the Cobra. I ended up getting a second one from SupplyCaptain on clearance for under 100 dollars.

Recently got this one, simple and Berry compliant made in the Washington USA.
Perfect size for hunting and pretty much anything short of backpacking in my opinion. Only thing I wish it had was more MOLLE.
