DIY light weight compact shooting mat

figured paying 80 to 100+ for something this easy was silly, so her it goes…

about a yard and a 1/2 of 1000d water proof backed cordura…
a space blanket, and some thin neoprene sheets… and some 550 cord

its wide enough to fold in 1/2 and have plenty of room to go from my elbow to elbow and down to my knees…

stitch it like a pillow case, i put in 550 loops on the corners if i need to stake it down…

cut the space blanket and spray with some spray glue to adhere…

attache neoprene and turn inside out after stitching the 2 sides…

stitch closed… run a few stitches across the top section with the neoprene to keep it in place and done…

now u have more $$$ to spend on ammo…

First aprons and now this. Your pretty handy with that sewin’ contraption there Si there Si (Duck Dynasty). Just couldn’t resist.

In all actuallty I’ve been thinking of the same thing. I sold the one i was using for DCM years ago and picked up a cheap
Midway matt 2-3 years ago. It’s great in the winter time in Oregon since it is always muddy but getty old and arthritis in my back sucks. If I’m down for more than a few minutes I have problems after I get back up.

this wasnt met to be a full blown shooting mat, or i would have filled it with a old camp mat on the inside… this was meant to keep you dry and shit from poking you and “slightly” insulated… the main thing, was to keep is small, and foldable to put on/in this

Can you sew a cover for a Deuce and a half? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll take a multicam cover for a ram 1500.

We’ve always used inflatable 'Puss Pads" for comfort while laying on rooftops or in the desert for 2-3 days at a time. It does wonders on preventing small rocks and debris from digging into your hips and ribs.

nice, but what was the purpose of the emergency blanket?

To keep your body heat against you, and keep the earths off you? Hot as fuck in the summer, warm in the winter?

That and 1 more layer of water proof ness…

I’ll keep using my TAB mat.
