Id like to hear all the exp. And thoughts on using a eotech for 100-200 shooting at a bullseye vs a aimpoint style red dot.any draw backs to the eotech
The EoTech will slightly out perform the Aimpoint at distance, in my hands at least. Overall I prefer the Aimpoint, but the clean 1 MOA dot gives me the ability to more precisely and consistently hold over at 200. I zero at 100 meters, and both will be fine at that distance, dependant on the size of your aiming point though.
At 200, you need to account for some drop, and again the size of your aiming point can come into play. Expect to be 2 to 3 inches low at 200, which is effectively the bottom of a 2 MOA dot at that range, however, if you don’t see a perfectly round dot, the technique won’t work, whereas you can fairly easily hold the EO 1 MOA dot just high without overly covering the aiming area.
Like I said, I prefer the Aimpoint for GP use, but there are some things that the EO does a little better.
Once you get past dead-hold range (about 175 to 225) it’s more a matter of being able to consistently apply hold-over than anything else. I am not the only one that has shot an Aimpoint past 500 meters with decent success, once again, depending on your definition of success and size of target.
I’ve consistantly hit a 12x12" steel plate at 325 yards with an Eotech. The 1 MOA dot makes it easy.
Its a bit harder with an aimpoint, but at 300+ yards you are holding above the target anyway so the dot size is a bit irrelavent. Sure its bigger than I’d like, but turning the brightness down really helps.
I still prefer the Aimpoint for its battery life and reliability.
F2S got it. The Eotech has a 1moa dot vs the Aimpoint 2-4moa.
Still, the 1moa dot still covers a 10" target at 200yds.
A magnifier helps alot
No, A 1 MOA dot will cover about 2" of target at 200yds.

My dot, un-magnified would cover teh 10" shoot-n-see targets, unless it was over 200 and Im mistaken
On some days, our closest pice of steel is 500 yards. Once you find the right holdover and hold off for wind, and Aimpoint is surprisingly easy to get hits with.
Never shot an Eotech at those distances though.
This is perception, based upon the intangibles and other stuff that can’t be measured without instrumentation: ambient lighting contition, device brightness setting, your eyesight, imperfections in the lens, dust, your eye-pro, contrast of the reticle to the target…we could hand-wring over the mindless details that can impact this stuff for bloody ever…
It doesn’t change or invalidate your experiences or what you’re seeing, but it’s also not the basis upon which to insist that what you’re seeing invalidates or changes the math.
When shooting at an IDPA target at 200 yds with an eotec 1 moa optic turned down low for more precision, I can clearly tell that it is not covering the entire -0 portion of the target. Granted, I probably could obscure that much at 200 yds if I turned the brightness all the way up.
I have found that the 1 moa dot of the eotec can be quite precise out to 300yds on torso sized targets, if adjusted appropriately.

Its math. Plain and simple.
On my experiences though, thats what I seen.
Trying to get “Groups” at that distance consisted of shots around
4-5" apart.
That was the best I could do.
I don’t recall doing any better than 4 or 5" either.
