Discrete & Secure Gun Hiding at Home

My family and I might be moving in the near future.

We are looking at purchasing our first single family home, we currently rent an apartment.

If the move happnes I will have more options and I am looking for ideas

My ideal plan would be to have several weapons securely located around the house.

Partly for home protection but also to hopefully prevent loss in the event of a break in. I have always tried to break up my valuable and securely store them in seperate locations than put all my eggs in one basket or safe.

The main thing is that I have young children and they have to be able to be stored safely.

I am looking at purchasing a piece of furniture for the master bedroom that i will be able to concel a pistol and most people would never know it is there, and think its not worth looking at. I cant afford to buy custom concealable furniture throughout the house though.

the home would be segmented with the kids on one side and my wife and I on the other, plus there is 1 bedroom upstairs

Ideally I would like to have 1 16inch Ar- Stored upstairs then also secure another handgun on the other side of the house

I have 2 SBR’s as well that I would keep in a safe in the master closet but would consider placing them in seperate safe locations as well.

just looking for any ideas.

multiples of these throughout the house for the handguns…

You’re probably not going to like this, but really your only option here is a quality gun safe, and they are expensive. A GOOD safe, bolted into the framework of your house, is really the only protection against a determined thief, as well as kids.

The GunVault can be a good option for special circumstances, but are not 100%. The batteries need to be changed regularly to prevent leaking and depletion, and I’ve had one completely poop out, functional only with the key. Speaking of the key, I seriously hope they’ve changed to a better lock/key system; the tubular locks are easily defeated with nothing more than a plastic pen cap.

I forgot to add: Barring kids, I’m partial to keeping a compact pistol in an old hiking boot on the shelf in the closet. Fast access in the event of an emergency, but not likely to be fiddled with if someone came rifling through my house while we are out. My feelings might be different if children have access, but I suppose it depends on your situation and your kids.

magnets under sinks. take some foam out of a pillow on the couch and stick a pistol in.

Some models are lockable.

I agree a safe is the best. But not for fast, right now access. I don’t have kids yet so I can have a fire arm on a small biometric safe on the bed side. But for around the house with kids I would have only suggestions. Such as those magnets that you stick under a table and the gun can stick to them. But then again for kids it’s not a safe option really.

For hiding in plain sight, there are tables and couches that have storage areas that are concealed from sight. Ikea has a coffee table that has storage both ends that will fit a SBR or multiple pistols. When it’s closed none would notice. You mentioned you had children so that option may be out since they get into everything everywhere. Depending on their age you could consider bike J Hooks with screw ends and mount two in your closet high up behind the wall that hangs the door or sliding doors and mount the SBR on them. I found that works really well.

The only truly secure method would be a quality safe properly secured, and with the kids, safety is Priority #1! It is very hard to have a loaded gun easily accessible and secure. BUT a locked loaded gun is useless.

Check out www.shotgunlock.com, looked interesting to me, although I have not seen or used one.

I have used the gunvault, functional and less expensive but not as secure as the Fort Knox version.

+1 Tactical Walls. Very attractive and effective. Very innovative.

nice suggestion!

Probably not the best bet with young children in the house. They could easily walk (see) underneath a sink and play around on couches and stuff. Not recommended.

Innovative is right! Some very nice storage solutions offered by these guys. I’m glad I clicked on the link as I had never heard of them before. Very discreet.

Guns in the house…tough situation with kids. Keeping a gun unlocked with kids around means the kids are in far more danger from accessible guns than they are from whatever you’re ostensibly protecting them from. IMHO.

Are these able to bolted down to things? I have a larger one that can be but was looking for something smaller to go in a bedside drawer.

I completely agree, I am just looking at options. Truth be told there are numerous factors to be considered

Since ive had kids i keep my guns on my person or secured in my safe, once its time for bed is the main use i am looking for to store a handgun.

my kids are also very young so height is an advantage for me now, in 6 to 10 years i will have to rethink my options and change my plans.

I think this is the key, to reassess every so often as the kids grow and as technology evolves. What I have now is fine, but won’t be what I want with teenagers in the house.

Hobby Lobby and other places sell fake hardback books with hollow cavities. They come in various sizes. Some I’ve seen are large enough to hold a Desert Eagle.

You might look into these if you want quick access without having to fumble with unlocking a safe.
