I bought me a cheap dual tennis bag for $30. I found a couple of cheap tennis rackets that I threw in to add some rigidity to the bag.
I can put my BCM 11.5 with a 20 round mag or stretch my pinned BCM 14.5 with a LWRC Compact stock past the zipper opening.
I would like to find a pad I could cut to the length of the bag and fold it like a taco so the rifle can be the meat/cheese of the taco.
does anyone know of a suitable material/pad that is thin enough to fold but durable to keep the rifle/accessories from cutting into the bottom of the bag and minimize printing but keep in line with the budget of this project.
Could order some Pelican type foam. Could even get couple of pieces and make one the divider, and cut out the other to match rifle. Give it a semi custom feel. Just a thought, good luck.
Have you considered the classic Army Surplus sleeping pad?
They are usually well worn closed cell foam that doesn’t hold moisture and has decent rigidity.
$10 or so. Bought my last one online.
I may or may not use them inside camp chair bags for a similar purpose… Also use it for a spacer for the base of ceramic plates. Wonderful stuff.
Love AR…I have a heavy duty Galati tactical case and I could easily buy an Incog.
I am recovering from knee surgery and have a lot dollars spent these last two years on medical expenses. I have to watch my spending plus there will be nothing wrong with my discreet bag when heavily padded with military grade sleeping foam, plus all the dirt bags in my area will think I play a lot of tennis.
Next year…I plan to spend my hard earned money on large quantities of ammo…if everything goes good.
i say go with this. modify it all the way and have a real actual covert case. i have a 3/4 guitar case as mine and i couldn’t ask for a better rifle case.
I too have been wondering about adding padding to my tennis sbr bag. Thanks for starting this thread and all who suggested things! Im going to try a sleeping pad.
I have a pelican for when I take my stuff to the range or ranch, but I use a tennis bag when I only take my sbr or when I don’t want something that screams gun.
I used the sleeping pad as suggested above. Worked perfectly and had enough material for both sides of the bag (one side holds the 11.5 and the other holds a pinned 14.5). I had enough material left over to make a protective cover for my Arsenal SLR107. To the unaware…I play tennis.

open one side and you can see my $2 racquet and internal padding that I heated and bent. was not easy to bend with a heat gun and it started to crack in some areas (but still sound)
on the front side, a few inches of the front end is exposed. but blends well with the padding.
open the foam padding to grab my 11.5 with a 20 round mag ready to go!.
on the other side, I can stretch it around my pinned 14.5 and a compact stock or my folded Arsenal SLR-107.
I use one as well. It’s a 2 racquet bag that holds everything I need for a range trip: 2 rifles, 2 pistols, eyes/ears, targets, tape, etc. Ammo goes in a separate bag anyhow so the mags and boxes don’t spill and knock around.
It’s all about blending in. I don’t dress like a shooter, don’t carry MOLLE covered bags, don’t have gun related bumper stickers, etc. I live in a large apartment complex, so I have to be discreet.
A $40 bag more than fills my needs for transport and subtlety, all while protecting my gear and carrying my shit.
