Lets set the table. Don’t normally ask for advice on here and actually think I have my mind made up. Just curious on what everyone else would do in the same pair of shoes.
I have a 16.1" LWRC SPR and a 14.7" permed-FH LWRC SPR. One will get a 4 moa Aimpoint Micro T-1 the other a 1-6 Vortex Razor HD II w/ LaRue LT135. Primary gun WILL be the 14.7" (running a can so I want to keep overall length to a minimal and don’t live in an SBR state). I really want to run the 1-6 on my primary but I know it would probably be suited more on the 16.1" gun for more of a SPR style rifle. Am I crazy for wanting to run a magnified on the 14.7? For the sake of the argument, try to keep my choices of optics out of the question and replace them with dots/scopes of your personal choice. What would you do?
I forgot to ask, would your primary gun be your Home Defense gun? If so, I’d go with the T-1 because you usually do not need magnification inside a house, usually.
If not, then whatever floats your boat. You can switch them around too.
A 1.4" difference in barrel length will not make a huge difference in velocity or the ability to use the gun. Once the can is on, the 14.7" is suddenly the longer, heavier, clumsier weapon. Put the optics on whichever rifles you want them on.
Didn’t see this post till now. Yes it probably will. Yesterday I was gunna put the 1-6 on the 14.7 but today I’m thinking the 16" gun will. I won’t really know until i get the can and scope on the gun and see how bearable the weight of it is. Who knows lol
I set up my primary for the most critical situation I could face. The most critical situation (for me) would be HD at O’dark thirty. For that, no contest, H1 that is always on, just changed the batt. for the first time at 3 years. When I get awakened from a deep sleep to something going bump in the night, get an adrenaline dump, grab my carbine, the last thing I want to fuss with is any sort of variable scope (at a minimum you would have to turn on the dot…or can you pickup the black reticule fast with the weapon light on?). This doesn’t even get into the other advantages such as faster hits on moving targets and cheek-weld not being at all critical with the RDS.
The Aimpoint is always on and delivers outstanding performance (in all light conditions) from bad-breath distance to 300m in a tiny, rugged package. I don’t see any downsides to this being a primary optic.
