Hey guys I have some questions for guys with bad eyes that wear contacts. I had a ta31f acog, an aimpoint and have played around with eotechs at gun shows. I like each one of these optics but one problem i have with the eotech and the aimpoint is no matter the target or the brightness setting, the reticle is blurry or distorted. This wasnt the case with the acog, the sight picture was always crisp and clear. Why is this? Is it because the acog reticle is etched in the glass or just because it is magnified? Are there non-magnified optics like the trijicon reflex, rmr or tri-power that produce that same crisp reticle for a guy with wacked out eyeballs? thanks
I have the same problem and noticed the same thing, with uncorrected vision red dots and holosights are distorted while magnified optics are much clearer.
But when wearing correctional lenses most of the distortion goes away.
Could your prescription be outdated?
With my &^( uncorrected eyes only prismatic 1x or magnified optics are clear.
True 1x optics like red dots and holosights, I need my glasses for those.
Any magnified optic will be much more distortion free. The optic, by design, sends your eye one image, which is the target combined with the reticle. As everything is essentially in the same visual plane for your eye, any distortion will be even throughout the image.
With bad eyes, you’ll pretty much have to go with a magnified optic for the most clarity in reticle and target alignment.
If your eyes are bad enough that you are looking for any option, look at the low end variables that have magnifications around 1. That might be your best option.
Aside from that, like mentioned, make sure your eye script is up to date, and also analyze how much error the distortion causes when you are target focused looking through a red dot.
I highly recommend the Trijicon TR24G 1-4X,
It is extremely bright and clear, distortion is minimal/non existent.
The green chevron is easier on my eyes than a red dot (I have a ML3
also).
Target focus (with the target more than a few meters away) clears up about 99% of perceived blur with Aimpoints and EoTechs, provided that the reticle/dot is at an appropriate intensity.
