Whats the difference between the 2 i can’t tell by just looking at them.
I know it’s prob a n00b question but I still would like it answered

Yea, i did look it up and got the same results. The reason I ask is I was looking at them on BCM site, and they have what looks like the same exact gen 2 stocks, but 1 is “preban gen1” and one is gen2. They look exactly the same.

The differences are essentially cosmetic. The Gen 2 stock is the same configuration as the current Colt version.
the difference isn’t even cosmetic… unless you know what you’re looking for, you probably couldn’t tell the difference. the gen 2s are a little longer and stronger than the gen 1s, with extra reinforcement at the pin and nut-end. i think there’s about a .5" length difference.

there are cosmetic differences- my point is that the differences are not cosmetic by design. the differences are in strength of construction, and the minor cosmetic differences are only a byproduct.
Those two are commercial stocks and the “Gen 1” and “Gen 2” are BCM applied names.
Here are different “M4” stocks
Colt “Type 3” came on pre M4 carbines and early M4 carbines- mil spec diameter
Colt “Type 4” comes on current M4 carbines- mil spec diameter
BCM “Gen 1” what most commercial AR15s come with- can be mil spec or commercial diameter
BCM “Gen 2” a copy of the Colt “Type 4”- mil spec diameter
HK 416 stock- mil spec diameter
There may be a couple more variations.
