I know some of the members here have the inside scoop on some of S&W’s products. On one of the reviews of the M&P15VTAC there was some scuttlebutt about trying to get them to put mid-length gas on the VTAC rifles. Does anyone know if they ever went ahead and did that?

S&W had the newer version on display at SHOT Show, along with the new Troy rail it will also have mid-length 1/8" twist barrel.

The Smith and the VTAC are “similar” per say. Sorry about that JFPatch. 
1/7 twist with a 14.5 inch barrel.

The new VTAC isn’t on Smith and Wesson’s website yet and has not yet been released. MilSpec Monkey posted a YouTube video (link in my previous post in this thread) from 2010 SHOT that had Kyle Lamb (VTAC) and a Smith & Wesson (Matt Diamond?) rep that goes over the finer points of the new VTAC… 1/8 mid length barrel, fluted. Troy VTAC hand guard, etc…
Its not the VTAC, but it is similar and worth looking at to compare. Go to www.smith-wesson.com and type 811024 in the search engine window. Hope that helps and I am clear its not the VTAC as I thought earlier in the thread…long day.

Whats up with the new S&W/Vtac (16" middy, 1/8 twist, fluted barrel) that was shown at SHOT '10??? Have these been released yet?
It looks like one of the absolute best packages to be had in-terms of specs. If I was shopping for a new complete patrol rifle, this new S&W/Vtac offering would be the route I would take hands-down.
I emailed back and forth with a Customer Rep at S&W a few weeks ago about the VTAC they debuted at the 2010 SHOT Show. I asked if there was an estimated release date. Bottom line is he didn’t have a clue what I was talking about.
After repeatedly refering me to the current VTAC offering on the S&W website, I sent him the YouTube with Lamb and the Smith guy. He never replied back…

Yeah bro, thats the current version that is supposed to be replaced by the new model the OP & me are talking about which is shown in the videos linked by Ranger325 and JFPATCH. The new model offers the following technical upgrades/features:
*Midlength gas system
*1/8 twist 16" 4150 steel, chrome-lined barrel (fluted in-front of the gasblock).
*Vtac/Troy 13" Extreme BattleRail
It also comes with some new Troy accessories.
In the video they stated that it also comes with an unspecified “match trigger.” Does anybody have any clue as to who makes this trigger? Is it a Geissele?
I think I’d rather have a Magpul stock and grip on it, but everything else on it looks good to go!
