I just sighted in my otherwise My NIB Colt Match Target HBAR. Couple of trips to the range…took my time and had fun.
Just yesterday I noticed that the buffer retainer had put a little nick in the bolt carrier. The nick is in that ridge along the bottom of the bolt carrier.
It’s as if the buffer retainer took a very small flake off of the leading edge of that ridge. There have been no issues whatsoever with the rifle.
Carriers are crazy hard from the heat treat process. I would say keep shooting it, it may have had a burr or something. Now if the carrier breaks the tip of the pin off or something, then you may have a problem. Just so you know, not much will hurt a carrier. If your still worried about it, post a pic or two for visual aid. Hope that helps…
Later,
S.H.
Finish wear on the buffer face is normal, and will vary in extent. Not a problem:
If your buffer retainer pin is creating dimples in the buffer face in the shape of the pin, you have a dimensional problem in assembly somewhere. If you have grooving in the buffer face, you likely have a burr on the bolt carrier tail. You should be able to feel it and you can knock it off with a file.
