Did I Get A Good Deal On This Hk P7m8…
I walked into a gun store here in north atlanta, they had what looked like a barely used Hk P7m8 i asked if i could take a look and I saw that the price tag said $799.00, I think the store had it priced at a PSP Trade In Price…
No Box and 2 Magazines, No Tools…It did have a funny Plum Slide though.
I put it on layaway and the next week i picked it up. here are the pics. tell me if i got a great deal or if its just average,
its a KH Date Code and the internals looked great too.
i just put 50 rounds through it to see if it was working.
Any time you can find an M series P7 at a Polzei trade-in P7/PSP price, it seems to me that you are doing very well indeed. An M8 in that condition could sell for several hundred dollars more without any difficulty whatsoever.
thx, think refinishing the slide would hurt the value of it at all?
the plum on the edges look worn but not from holster wear it looks like it never stuck on the steel right.
Unless you’re repairing a gun that’s completely thrashed refinishing a gun with some collector value generally does hurt the value. At the very least doesn’t increase it after you put the money into refinishing. The plum slide on a P7 isn’t considered a defect or blemish. However it’s your pistol, if it really bothers you there are a lot of options. The pawn shop I worked at years ago had one with a chromed slide that I alway thought looked killer.
Good find at a great price. I’d highly encourage you to pick up the gas cylinder cleaning tool and cylinder cleaning brush though. Also, may consider downloading the instruction manual. The cleaning tool should only be turned clockwise according to the manual. Finally, the manual is helpful in reinstalling the firing pin to get correct collar pin seating.
All in all a fine pistol. Fast, flat, and accurate, but it does have its nuances. Best.
I picked up a NJSP trade-in a few years ago that showed a decent amount of holster wear, but very little, if any, mechanical wear. It came with no box, papers or tools but did come with 4 factory magazines. I think it was like $900 out the door…
I sent it down to old Walt Birdsong (RIP!- a true gentleman…) and he did a two tone job on the pistol. The slide and mags were done in Black-T and the frame in Green-T. With the original black grips, it looks fantastic. I also got for it a Comp-Tac belt holster and single magazine pouch, both in now discontinued OD green.
One of the coolest pistols I’ve ever owned.
thx guys
i am not sure if i want nickel or np3 or just leave it alone.
well the internals look great lt only has black carbon i cant get off on the gas pistons front rings…
everything else looks mint!!
If you plan on carrying it a great deal, then I would look into having the at least the slide re-finished.
The carbon doesn’t come off of the gas piston. If the pistol did not come with an owner’s manual/ guide. Contact HK or check online to see if one is available.
The other thing is you will want a factory carbon scaper for the gas-piston.
You got a good deal. The P7s are very nice pistols and accurate (mine shot into 1 hole at 7 yards with almost any kind of ammo).
I carried a P7M8 for a while. I really liked it, but it does have its quirks as some already said. Definitely a gun for carrying and not shooting a great deal.
I ended-up swithching over to a Glock 19. I cleaned that P7 almost everyday after I carried-it. The factory finish sucks for concealed carry. Mine had the purplish colored slide too.
Have fun with yours! Get yourself a good holster and you will barely notice the weight of the gun.
I bought my P7M8 a little over a decade ago and thanks to Robar’s NP3 plating (I did the full gun and two mags), cleaning is a breeze and I don’t have to worry about corrosion or rust despite living in the humid and muggy south. I highly recommend NP3 on this gun.
Great steal by the way!
Enjoy the P7M8 and remember, it chokes on crimped brass.
