Did anyone catch this???

I don’t watch the news, but I do like to peruse the OCT youtube channel now and then (when in need of a chuckle). Looks like ABC Nightline ran a piece on these folks. They even interviewed the chicken hawk himself, C.J. Grisham.

Positive? Negative? Or just good ol’ informational journalism?..Your thoughts?

Okay, I’m not getting dragged into this but I did have to chuckle when Bill Maher referred to the open-carry guys as “ammosexuals.”

I don’t care who ya are, that thar’s kinda funny.

I too thought that was a decent punch line. I thought the overall piece was pretty fair, ABC probably could’ve had a field day with these guys.

I agree. I only watched the first half of the piece… but they handled those Look-At-Me goobers pretty gingerly.

I too am surprised ABC didn’t give those idiots the public humiliation they deserved. They have done a very good job of making CHL law relaxing more difficult with those stunts they pull on private property.

lets just ban guns. that will solve the issue.

If I’m not mistaken, that option has been discussed.

Now that would be silly, what would the military carry?? Gamma ray guns?

once guns are banned there will no longer be any war or conflict… so the military will not have any need to exist.

I don’t think everyone in the OC crowd deserves public humiliation or anything. The founder already received a bit of unwarranted humiliation with his initial contact with an officer. Despite the laws regarding OC of a rifle he was forcibly disarmed and arrested.

Granted the OC community, like the black rifle crowd, fudds and the rest, comes with it’s own special set of retards…BUT you don’t see them being forcibly disarmed and arrested. The police in those areas have been made aware of local laws and conduct themselves accordingly. This is a important and significant accomplishment.

While the majority of my police contacts when I’m carrying concealed have been professional there have been a few instances where I was treated like some kind of criminal, disarmed against my wishes and generally criticized for not following laws that existed only in the LEO’s imagination. The key point was I was “damn lucky to not being going to jail” even though I had actually not broken any laws. But debating a deputy on the side of the road when he’s already agitated is a “no win” and I had no desire to be an “activist” about it and have an arrest related to a weapons charge on my record.

But I can respect what is trying to be accomplished. I just wish everyone was doing it as responsibly as the founder of OCT seems to be. I don’t think it’s the goals of OCT that bother most of us, I think it is the irresponsible carry of some of it’s members and the negative image some of them project.

Thank you sir, you just hit the nail on the head.

We certainly need to try and police our own as best we can. But at the same time, we shouldn’t support limitations on rights for everyone because some sketchy guys in Chipolte are doing their best to be dipshits with guns. Nobody supports a ban on hunting because some Fudd has a ND in Wal Mart parking lot making sure he “bought the right size ammo for his rifle” before he leaves.

And yes, I have seen people do that, minus the ND.

I have to admit, even though I CC and have been around a lot of firearms, I still pay careful attention to people who open carry. Especially when it’s a rifle.

And with good reason until you have established “threat” or “non threat.”

Open carry is something I struggle with. Although the right to do so seems great and wonderful, the actions many of these groups take to promote it serves to polarize the masses. We have a large number of our populace who struggle to understand concealed carry laws, or even just the ownership of firearms. Openly carrying long guns into a retail establishment does not win over hearts and minds. In fact, due to this whole “Lets meet at Chipotle/Panera Bread/Target” movement we are losing the ability even to carry concealed in some previously free zones. I’m actually not even upset with some of these businesses, we (gun owners) in a way did it to ourselves.

Openly carrying a firearm in defense of person and property in an environment such as the LA riots, Ferguson or post-Katrina makes sense, I’d probably do it too, as it sends a message and may serve to deter crime. In everyday society, though, keep your cards to yourself until the chips are down. Just my .02.

CJ Grisham is not doing us any favors. TAZ is right, this guy is making it harder for us, not easier. Open carry, possibly even constitutional carry as they have in Arizona, was quite likely going to happen next year in Texas. All of the predicted winners in the Texas political races next week are very pro 2nd Amendment. It’s pretty likely even the Speaker i nthe Texas House of representatives will change next year, giving us an amazing opportunity.

But now we are going to have to fight this kind of public perception. Thanks for nothing, CJ.

Pretty much agree with the above statement. I have no intention of OCing, even though state law now allows it. A bulk of people who don’t own black rifles aren’t going to be swayed into accepting them just because they see them every once in a while in a major retail setting. We aren’t living in Israel with our backs up against the Sea and potential enemies ringing us in on all sides.

As far as the report goes, the one gentleman with the long beard talking to the reporter about violence with hammers and fists vs. violence with a firearm should have educated himself better. If he had said that “long guns such as these rifles are used less in violent crimes than hammers or fists” it would have kept ABC from going to the statistics and saying nuh-uh. Than again selective editing may have played a role, he may have been the only one out of that crowd that made the gaffe and ABC said “Yes, someone finally made a mistake that we can use!”

Mom’s that demand action side of the report, as usual you receive the standard half truths and outright lies.
