DELETE with Extreme Prejudice

The ones I want to weed out are the ones like

“WutZ up dO0dz, i just buyd a olympic ar, the guyz at the gun5hop said that they just sold some to the rangers Cuz their colts were piecez of 5hit. Wut kind of lazer should I buy for my new gat lol”

Perhaps the forum could go the way of the KCA, Invitation only.

I don’t think that’s the answer. I just think the s/n is getting bad lately. Perhaps a “NUKE” button for senior members, three or four members pressing the Nuke button on one post makes it disappear?

I haven’t seen too many of those, thank God. I must be unconsciously avoiding them.

Mods and staff can’t read every thread.

I’d really appreciate it if instead of a dogpile, pm or email the thread in question to a mod or one of the staff guys so we can take a look at it.

Both I think. If I come across more I will forward to someone.

Indeed, there’s a “report post” button on the upper right hand corner of every post.

I’ve used it, and usually received a quick, polite reply from a mod, followed by appropriate action in the thread.

I also just skip posts from specific folks.

You have been lurking here for 4 years and that is your first post? What tipped you over the edge enough to respond to this thread? You have to be the oldest newbie I have ever seen.

Every week we vote someone off the island!

Agreed.

Thanks! I’ve been around on the block on a lot of other boards, I usually know when to keep my yap closed. I’m sure a few senior members recognize my board name. I also know how to use the search function to get the info I need, avoiding asking the same questions that come up every week. This board has the best info on the M4, and has helped me with my decision on which route to go. [Colt 6920] Unfortunately, forums open to the public attract all types of personalities, hard to keep the wankers out.
My way of dealing with these types of these posts is to ignore them or post a link to the FAQ section and move on.

I tend to ask questions…a lot. To some people they might seem stupid but I am honestly trying to expand my knowledge. The search feature is kind of weak but I still try to use it before I post and I do spend a fair amount of time reading and rereading other peoples topics and posts. The reason that I ask questions here rather than over at TOS is so that I get a solid fact based answer. I must say that when I have PM’d people here with a question or posted a topic every response that I have gotten has been polite and informative.

just my two bits which don’t count for much

Requiring a minimum post count to start a thread will only encourage them to post more and faster to get their thread started.

If the stickies have the info, show the user politely. If the OP has their question answered, and it is simple, not worthy of extended conversation, lock it. If the question occurs often, ammend the sticky or create a new one with dedicated discussion.

IE,

Which mid length rail if I want a drop in?

Answer: XXX1 or XXX2 are it, XXX2 is known to explode.

Ongoing sticky:

Which mid length rail is best for me?

Answer 1: …

Answer 1999: …

It can become less neat, so stickies may need condensed, but it seems to be the most simple way to accomplish this. Confine the BS and common stuff to a single thread.

Is this the type of post y’all are talking about?

Something else I’ve noticed lately: along with TOS newb posts, a big upswing in snarky TOS-style “what a stupid question, my dick is bigger than yours and I’m part of the cool kids” type replies.

Which really sucks.

I will second that.

As a new AR owner (1 and 1/2 years), and a member of M4 that entire time this is something I have been really gunning for since I came on the site!!! In fact I have tried to start them before, but since I’m a newbie most people simply responded, to my 1 question, and then moved on.

I think a FAQD sticky thread would rock and it would make this site all the more attractive, and a wealth of even more accessible knowledge (which seems to be the desire of the mods and the forum itself).

The most frustrating thing about this site is the Search Function, the second is using the Search Function 5 times (while waiting
30 magical seconds between each search), and then posting a thread and having the first response to your thread be: “Use the Search Function.”

I would much rather that response be: “See the FADQ man come on get with the program!”

I’ve never seen a post like that on this site…

Wow… I think I lost a few IQ points reading that!

I think the short quick answer and a lock on the easy questions saves bandwidth & time. Works for the dumb questions, too!

Something else to consider is the time of year- school just let out, so all the kiddies have more free time to spend trolling.

I don’t think that racking up a post count to perform certain basic forum functions. Then all you get is people who feel ‘forced’ to speak up, when they really don’t have anything useful to share. I’d feel this way about the new general forum guidelines if it weren’t the general forum. (Not that it matters in the least how I feel, ha…)

I came to this forum at an odd time it seems; it can easily be a less than welcoming environment to new folks, just from people being on edge about possible tards/trolls. Kind of like the Spikes Tactical internment thread…

Obviously, I’m a new user (can’t tolerate the other term a minute longer) and I fell victim to my own laziness by not searching the FAQs more thoroughly. So, yes, by all means beef them up! That may have prevented me asking a Q like, “Can I build XYZ for $ much.” Sorry men. I learned that lesson the second after I submitted it. Won’t happen again.
