What about that rifle and/or caliber make it something you would want to carry to save your life over a good AR? I’m not trying to be snide, just genuinely curious what the pluses are for your uses?
Yes, I got that much. I was more referring to the upper and lower, and stock. I’ve never seen the likes of any of those components.
Sure I’d be happy to explain:) my duty rifle is a Colt M4A1 5.56x45(Full Auto)sporting an Eotech 552 optic, I have it all tricked out with rails, stock, etc etc etc. I am a Border Patrol Agent/Firearms Instructor along the southwest border where we routinely interdict illegal narcotic loads as the smugglers attempt to float them in to the US via boat or raft, often times smugglers are armed with Ak47s, FALs and an assortment of handguns. Along the Rio Grande River the Mexican and American sides are covered in THICK brush and vegetation, the river between both countries is approximately 50yrds wide through most of the area. Now, that being said, as a firearms instructor, I get the opportunity to handle and fire an assortment of weapons and calibers, I fire my M4, pretty much daily, a couple of rounds here and there mostly in demonstrations, I do love my M4, but when shooting steel, the “THUMP” just isnt there, often times barely budging the steel plate with a 64gr round, my 7.62x39 on the other hand, just knocks the piss out of those same plates, causing a violent “THUMP” upon contact. It is MY OPINION that in a gun fight, that 5.56 MIGHT not be as effective firing into dense vegetation as a 7.62 would be, especially at such a short distance. I too have read about the ballistics of the 5.56x45 vs 7.62x39 and how the 5.56 creates similar energy at impact as the 7.62, but instead of what I have read on paper, what I SEE ON STEEL FROM 50yrds (pretty much the width of the river) is that the 7.62 provides the kind of “THUMP” I am looking for, especially if I were to have to fire into dense brush to engage a threat, I’ll take a 123gr over a 64gr ANY DAY…
Like I said, my 7.62x39 runs at 100%, 0 MALFUNCTIONS, even though it is semi automatic, anyone who has ever fired full auto knows, unless you can really control the burst, you ain’t hitting much on full auto with a 5.56, imagine full auto with a 7.62x39!!! No wonder the insurgents need IEDs, they must not be able to fire those full auto AKs for shit…

Sure, the upper is a LAR Grizzly Ops-4 side charging upper with ambidextrous charging handles, a gas plug in the rear instead of a rear charging handle, I’m ambidextrous, I fire both righty and lefty, but prefer lefty. The lower is a TNT(Top Notch Tactical) MK4, it too has ambidextrous controls, I do plan on swapping it out for a Lancer L15 in the near future, but I will DEFINITELY be keeping my TNT lower as it is a beautiful piece of machining and is discontinued. The stock is a Troy Industries BattleAx, it is AWESOME!!! Thats pretty much it, I have a custom shroud in the mail right now and a pretty bad ass weapon light and forward grip also in the mail:)

I still can’t figure out what possible benefit there could be to running an 7,62 AR.
Poor quality parts, finicky operation, nearly impossible-to-find magazines, etc…
“Poor quality parts,” I have a matching AR Performance barrel and bolt, both are some of the highest quality pieces I’ve seen.
“Finicky operation,” mine seems to eat anything from Wolf, Fiocchi reloades, to quality brass… Not so much as a misfeed… I’ve fired thousands of rounds through my M4, and YES, I’ve had plenty of failures, partially because it was dry and dirty, but none the less, failures.
“Nearly impossible-to-find magazines,” ASC makes some really nice mags, I bought some from AimSurplus the other day, they do sell out, but I just order 4 or 5 every time they’re available…
I’m building a personal 5.56x45 now, just a lil something for fun… Gonna be really “TactiCool”…
As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because that’s just about the ugliest fucking lower I have ever laid my eyes on. LOL! 
Glad it runs so well for you though! I’ll have to try those ASC mags in mine to see if they run any better than the CP.
Lucky for me this isn’t a beauty pageant and performance outweighs appearance every time… The extended magwell is flared and elongated in the front making mag exchanges effortless even for a blind man, all controls, with the exception of the safety selector are ambi (I am an ambi shooter) I will be getting an ambi safety soon though… Ergonomics are as good as gold with me… and this rifle has it all… Lancer L15 is on its way… Gonna really spruce things up with the appearance too:)
I seem to remember reading the PWS Diablo’s chambered in 7.62x39 are damn reliable. From what I remember, its the magazines that make or break an AR in 7.62…buy good quality mags.

Just want to point out that PD2’s 7.62 upper is available in 5.56 also =] I definitely have to check this out, because I like my current upper’s charging handle way more than any AR type handle!
Ive heard the same about pws but I havent had any experience with the 7.62x39 model. I love my realtors 5.56 diablo though, its a gun that you cant help but smile when you shoot it.
I really like the Ops-4, I got mine ambidextrous because I shoot both righty and lefty (ambidextrous) but it can be had in right or left aswell. The Ops-4 is VERY high end, I had a Young Mfg that was “nice” but didn’t “blow my skirt up” the way the LAR Grizzly did.
As another poster stated above, the magazines are EVERYTHING!!! I ran my CPs before and they were junk, I still have them and I’ll try to tweak them… We’ll see… I think ASC has a rebuild kit for them, if they do, I’ll do that…
I know nothing about them, so what makes them so “high end”?
I’m guessing machining quality, attention to detail, and qc. The same thing that makes lmt and others very high quality.
I mention lmt because things like my lower are smooth and silk. Forging likes are non existent, no machining marks what so ever either. Imo that is wat makes something better than the rest. I’m yet to see a colt lower as precisely finished up as an lmt. But that’s just me. Attention to detail is a plus for me. But then again I have 1 lmt lower like that, I’m sure many aren’t like that. Its a numbers game in the great ordeal ratio wise.
Forgings? Forgings are forgings. It’s about how they are cleaned up afterwards to what makes them good. LIKE I SAID.
And I had a few typos in that. Forging LINES is what I mentioned. IE cleaning up the forging after it’s been cooled.
Machining marks. IE, cleaning up any marks after the machining process following forging.
You should have know what I meant by likes. Simple typo when you consider my hands are massive, and typing on a 3in keyboard, and proofing on a 3in screen are next to impossible.
Other than machining work, what the hell else do you expect from a company??? Want to break the metals down under a microscope and look at it from a metalergistic level? If the upper is clean, the bolt is properly made right and staked in the right way, what else do you think you will find? Some golden rainbow?
Is your LAR OPS-4 upper the billet or forged one?
Did you have to have any machining or modifications done to it to work with the 7.62x39?
What bolt did you use with it and did you need anything else to complete the upper?
I am building a 7.62x39 and I am seriously considering this upper because of the side charging handle. You are the first person I have found who has one set up for 7.62x39.

Its the forged one, no I did no machining, it is identical to the billet version, easily the nicest upper ive seen or handled… The American Spirit Arms version is very nice too.
