Defects on KAC micro front sights?

Ordered a KAC micro front sight from brownells and noticed that the front sight post has noticeable play in all directions.
Contacted KAC and they sent me a complete replacement in less than 2 weeks, and again the sight has the exact same forward and side to side play.

I’m in no place to question KAC’s quality but it seems that in a sighting system, tighter tolerances would be expected.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have no objective way of demonstrating that its affecting POI so It may very well be a non issue, but it still seems like it should not be
occurring in sight that costs as much as these do…

Did the front sight have play when attached to the handguard? Does the front sight have play when collapsed or flipped up?

The front sight post has play regardless of being up or down or attached on the hand guard.
When the elevation knob is adjusted all the way down it minimizes the play.

When you say play… That means where exactly? The site is moving in the pic slot on your rail? If so, what rail? And if not there, I dont know where it would be. It’s a tight system that flips up and down and no movement to be had anywhere else.

The post itself is just a threaded part that moves up and down. All of mine have slight wiggle to them.

Non issue on the many, many rifles I have them on. Your good. Don’t worry about it.

Yeah it’s the post, the actual locking interface between the sight base and rail is fine.

Thanks for the input, and yeah in reality it probably makes a negligible difference in accuracy.
Otherwise I love the design of the micros, you just tend to expect better from KAC.

I have the M4- part #99051 model, I know KAC has 2 models of front flip up sights. The M4 sight does not lock in the up or down position, simply flips up and down. I don’t have “play” in mine like wiggles around or easily moves around but does easily move.

I have the # KM25654 micro which has the thinner post and overall smaller profile.

I have very minor play in two sets of KAC front and rear sights which I doubt has any practical effect on accuracy.

That said, I have many sets of Magpul Pro BUIS with relatively no play in them.

I too expected more from KAC but it doesn’t really matter to me much.

I’ve seen multiple threads about KAC sights having play. For $150 that’s unacceptable to me whether or not it has any noticeable effect. Not when mbus pros are half the price

I’ve handled multiple “premium” steel BUIS whether they are the magpul pros or midwest ind. and they all had no movement just like the standard A2 FSP.
I went with KAC because of the style of elevation adjustments on the rears and “finer” post on the front.

Have you ever thought that KAC builds stuff designed to be used in combat under conditions that may not play well with a tight hinge?? It’s a backup sight… Don’t worry about it.

No hinge in the front sight post.

Does it snap back to vertical or stay leaning when it wiggles?

I have two sets, one came on my KAC mod 1 and the other I purchased as a set. Both have play in the front sight as described above; however, I never noticed it having any real world effect on accuracy. I have actually had more accurate groups running those than an old T1 micro (4 moa) I had.

Yeah I figured KAC was in that line of work.
However I never mentioned anything about a hinge or any issues with the folding mechanism, only that the actual sight post itself wobbles with ease.

In the grand scheme of things it might not make a measurable difference which is true in your experience, just didn’t expect it from a universally known top tier company.
I think most would agree that a loose front sight post on any firearm they own is probably not ideal.

These sights were set up on an iron only rifle,
so I think I’m going to return the sight and just get a full set of fixed DD sights and be done with it.

I do love the mirco rears and will move it a 6920.

Pretty sure its not defect…I have around 10 pairs of Kac BUIS (all my ARs have them)and I believe all have a little play. Its normal. Have been using Kac BUIS for years… Ive owned / used all the aforementioned sights on too of many others and none have compared to the quality and accuracy of the Kacs. Our military uses a bunch of them and they beat the shit out of stuff if it makes you feel any better.

Maybe someone should call KAC and ask. Maybe its designed like that for a reason.

I think it’s pretty obvious that it moves because the adjustment method is quite different than a standard FSB sight post. KAC sights are some of the best in the world. I wouldn’t worry about it.
