Dealer to dealer wait times

The BATFE is now part of the Justice Dept, not Treasury.

You’re right. I knew that! Lapse in memory I guess. My original post has been corrected. Thanks

A Form 3 takes 8 months if you order your can through Knesek Guns in Van Buren, AR. And then they mail the wrong silencer to boot.

5 weeks from silencershop for me.

LOL, they sent yours? Lucky guy…

Clown shoes. Plain and simple.

UPDATE:

Just got the call the suppressor arrived yesterday. March 1st to Basically End of May. WOW… I’m not looking forward to the next part.

Lucky you! January 12th and counting for me. The “two weeks” estimate I was given has become four… I’m considering shopping around for something in-stock and trying to get my $ back on the item I have on order…

Wow, 3 months for Form 3, then 6-8 for the Form 4… :frowning:

Here is hoping my dealer to dealer transfer is a bit faster. Info was sent early May for dealer transfer. Hoping for only a couple more weeks before the long wait.

I had a form 3 suppressor from Silencershop take 3 weeks starting first week of April, and currently have an SBR at over 6 weeks now with no word yet. The SBR form 3 was submitted just 2 weeks after the form that only took 3 weeks to be approved. Probably depends on which examiner region it is transferred from.

Well my SBR form 3 is almost to 8 weeks now, and the dealer still says he hasn’t gotten it back yet. He claims the form was submitted 4/18, but I’m starting to wonder on that - I’ll find out when I see the form at my local dealer when they receive it. Anyone else had a form 3 go this long recently?

Thompson machine and Huntertown arms take WAY longer than any of my other sources. Why? Who knows…

Everyusername: who is the SBR coming from?

Okay… I know the dealer I used in GA sat on my transfer for 2 months before submitting the Form 3. Not the same dealer, but I’d give them a call.
I wouldn’t recommend the dealer I used because it was almost impossible to get any info from them…

I have to say that the dealer I’m waiting on has been very responsive to communication, so I’m fortunate for that at least. After having another form 3 take just 3 weeks concurrently with this one, which is now almost to 8 weeks, I was getting suspicious that they might have just sat on the form 3 for weeks before sending it in. I didn’t bother them at all until last week, at which point they told me it had been sent 4/18. Big part of my motivation in getting this SBR when I did was trying to get the form 4 submitted before any possible changes for trusts, which I’ve heard a rumor may take effect in July. Based on past experience, I couldn’t have imagined it would be over 2 months before I could even send in the form 4.

FIVE months tomorrow since I ordered / paid for my can, so I called my dealer today… Says he has about 4 dozen items that have been on “pending” status on form 3s for 3+ months. He said he called to check status just a couple weeks ago and assured me the distributor was on the ball, that it was ATF who was the bottleneck. This is a bummer!!

The double bummer was I am wanting to form1 an SBR and was going to do the paperwork at the same time so I only had one trip to the sheriff… Had I gone ahead and started that paperwork, it would be getting close to being approved by now!

3+ months on a form 3? that is complete bullshit. I would call ATF and raise hell. Mine take a month + or - a week. Form 4 wait times are out of control. Something has got to be done or 9 months will eventually turn into 9 years.

I called and spoke to the dealer I’m still waiting on for the SBR, the guy I spoke to claimed they had 200+ form 3s pending, and that most of them were at 2 months or more. I don’t know if I believe him, he had a pretty bad attitude, seemingly just because a customer (me) called to ask about the status of a form 3, since his shop hadn’t replied to emails asking that he call the NFA branch and make sure that it didn’t get lost. He still wouldn’t call - he just gave me the serial number and told me “you can call them every day if you want”, but of course NFA branch won’t discuss the status with you unless you are the transferor or transferee. I made a big mistake buying from this shop, I just hope I get what I paid for in the end. Turns out I could have waited and bought a Mk18 from a local shop that now has them in stock without a form 3, but 10 weeks ago when I purchased this one, it looked pretty bleak that DD was even going to make any more for the foreseeable future. I paid a premium to get this one for that very reason, and it’s turned out to be the worst gun-buying transaction I’ve ever had. Live and learn!
