Dealer to dealer wait times

Ordered a AAC SND6 March 1st. I’m now waiting on the ATF to approve the transfer to my dealer… I’m on 6 weeks. I know that wait times are through the roof (8 months+).

Whats the deal with transfers from dealer to dealer? are they just as long?

I had a form 3 that seemed like it was taking 2+months but I called and checked the status with the nfa branch and they said it had cleared over a month ago. I followed up with the sending party and it was sent soon after. Long story short: check the status, it’s probably cleared if its been more than 3-4 weeks

I’m waiting on a bunch of F3s one being an SDN as well. I think it’s a combo of the dealers taking a while to submit the F3s and ATF just being busy. It CAN take months but my normal F3s were around 3-6 weeks…

The biggest delay I had on was due to the company I purchased the item from sitting on the Form 3 for over 2 months. The actual wait from when they said they finally sent the Form 3 in was less than a month. I purchased the item Dec 12, BEFORE Sandy Hook, and the company didn’t send the form 3 in until Feb 23 or something like that.
TOTAL BS. The item was in stock when I ordered it.

I purchased 2 AAC cans after that purchase, and had to wait for AAC to get the cans to MajMal. After MajMal got my cans, it took took about 3 weeks for the forms to clear.

Yup, as I said I think one of the huge hurdles is distributors NOT filing F3s in a timely manner. I don’t know why they sit them!

My local dealer who is on it with everything NFA says it’s been 6-8 weeks lately.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I’m in ok shape for another week or two. I’ve been in regular (annoying) contact with them.

I would also say to be patient with your dealer. I have no issue with people calling and asking for updates. However don’t get mad at us when we don’t have anything but “not yet” as our answer. We’re not ripping you off, sometimes it just takes more time…

Looks like I need to call my dealer…

I ordered (and paid for) an SDN6 on 12 January… so 15 weeks and counting! I was told it was in-stock at their distributor.

First time ordering something (previous can was in-stock at the dealer, and then did an F1 SBR), so I didn’t know what to expect.

this is basically my situation

I talked my dealer into contacting the distributor… Not clear exactly on what happened, but apparently their “in-stock” supply went to filling other’s orders and mine ended up back ordered. Paperwork on my SDN6 is in process and the distributor expects my can to be at the dealer in ~2 weeks.

That information doesn’t help answer your question about the Form 3 approval times, but perhaps something similar happened in your case…

I’m now looking at 13-14 months from the time cash was handed over to the time I take my merchandise home. :bad:

If possible, always try to find a dealer that has what you want in stock, even if they’re a couple hours away. Given the craziness with distributors right now, I wouldn’t have something transferred in unless it was my absolute last option. Just my $0.02 opinion though…

Can any FFL/SOT please explain to my why dealers sit on the Form 3s? I’ve been waiting for a 6933 to transfer to my dealers since… Jan 3, 2013!

Lazy or completely disorganized. Plan and simple. You can batch them if you want but there’s no reason for a F3 to sit more than a few days…

Exactly. We ship within 24 hours of receiving an approved Form 3.

I have a form 3 in a similar situation right now.

Good gosh, this is getting ridiculous!

Six plus weeks for a dealer to dealer transfer and 8 + months for a tax stamp.

Can you imagine any federal agency causing this type of delay in any other commerce besides the firearms industry and there not being an uproar? Image if Customs tried to hold all imports for 6 weeks while the “duties” were being paid. Imaging Budweiser having to sit on their beer for 6 weeks before it could be moved from the distributor to your local convenience store.

Better yet, maybe next April 15th I’ll tell the IRS my taxes are going to be late, because, you know, I’m really busy. There is a flood of tax laws I need to read up on, so you will get my check in, 8 months. I can bet how well that would go over.

I’ve seriously contemplated contacting one of my Senators on this issue since they are both pro 2A. There isn’t a federal agency out there that likes getting calls from Congress.

This is totally annoying.

You know what else sucks? I’m an 02 SOT, so I can literally make as many machine guns, suppressors, SBRs, SBSs and AOWs but I have to get “approved” to buy any? 100% BS…

I just got an email from the dealer I bought an SDN-6 from and he said he submitted the Form3 and it’s been taking 3-4 weeks to get his back. I guess I’ll see how long it takes shortly.
