Deadliest Catch - Season Premiere

My favorite reality TV show…one more time.

Go Sig!.

The only reality TV I watch, because it seems real. Well, Deadliest Catch, and “The Hills”, but I watch that with the sound off, that LC is Hot.

Great reality series. The wife and I were discussing this evening how interesting it would be to take the fat folks from NBC’s Biggest Loser and let them spend a week working the crab pots on those fishing boats in the Bering Sea off of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. I bet they’d lose weight fast, mostly in the form of puking their guts; that is if they managed to avoid falling overboard.

Now that would be quality entertainment.:o

Is this the last season?

I definitely enjoy the show.

I sure hope not.

Many of us who live in Dutch Harbor can only hope that it will be.

I watched the premier last night as well. It seems that the hard life style and choices is catching up with some of the Captains and their health is paying the price.

I also noticed that the hard abuse their vessels take, caused many Captains on the show to spend $400-800K to up keep thier vessels. The Bering sea is no pplace for a break down, very unforgiving. Some of the best fish you will ever buy will be on the Dock in Kodiak or Dutch. Nothing like what you get in a store or restaurant. Good eating. I once traded a Sitka Blacktail buck, to a fishing boat crew for a 100 lbs. of 5 different kinds of fish on the dock in Kodiak.

Tired of tourists going there trying to bump into people from the show?

No. The expense of getting to Dutch Harbor precludes much tourism, we see very few people who show up here looking for jobs on a speculative basis. My main gripe is that the show has not portrayed our community in a very flattering light and has done little to promote Dutch Harbor/Unalaska. The camera crews and show producers are also a pain in the ass to deal with.

Take it from someone who is involved in the fishing industry - the show does little to accurately portray the Bering Sea crab industry as it is conducted today. Much of the activity on the show is contrived for the cameras. The sequence of events is altered to make for a better story line, many of the “traditions” portrayed on the show are about 2-3 years old and are the brainchild of some Original Productions producer.

AGREED
Don’t look at it as reality. Think of it as entertainment only.

Ohhhh Myyyyyy What Will Happen Next!!! (mouth covered)

Until that day,

I love the show. I’ll tell ya - that was one heck of a season opener.

I missed the first show. Hopefully, i can catch the rerun.

Those guys are bad-ass too !

Michael

I love the show, kinda bummed that Phil’s out though.

I can understand all your complaints, but as an outsider, I don’t agree with this one. I have a very positive impression of it, and I’ve never been there. I’m sure there is much more to it than what has been seen on the show, but the show is about the boats and the people on them - not DH.
