I recently bought a DD 15" slim rail for a 16" build.
I ran into some problems with gas blocks, fyi the syrac genii, and geisselle gas blocks do not fit. I finally bought a DD clamp on gas block p/n 25-079-05006 and it installed fine.
To this point I have only hand tightened everything to check for fit.
Well guess what? The rail easily flexes enough to hit the gas block (yes it its centered). I can grab the barrel and rail between my index finger and thumb and easily make contact to the left and right.
I am really hoping that this is all a product of hand tightening. Has anyone else checked the flex on their rifle with this rail.
Oh and to make matters worse DD wont answer their phone or call me back from a voicemail (not thrashing them, im sure they get boatloads of calls every day).
I just wanted to check with you guys before I return the rail to brownells.
I have 2 DD Slim 12.0 rails. Both are rock solid. One has a BCM low pro gas block and the other is factory pinned DD low pro. Make sure your 4 backing plate to rail bolts are all tightened evenly and snug. You shouldn’t have movement at all from the rail. The barrel will flex down a little. But the rail should be rock solid from my experiences. Backing plate on the right way. Barrel torqued to spec. Everything installed properly?
EDIT. Just pulled one out of the safe. If the gas block is canted at all, it will hit the rail. Not much room in there. Make sure it is perfectly aligned. I just put some force on the barrel and handguard. Barrel moves but not enough to hit. Rail is solid. No movement.

yes everything installed correctly? Yes. Torqued? Yes and No. Rail nuts were tightened to spec, but I hand torqued the barrel nut to check fit. I held the upper in my left hand and the wrench in my right. I probably tightened it to 25flb that way. A buddy is borrowing my reaction rod, so I cant get to 50flb right now.
The rail should not move. Its the barrel that’s moving. I’m guessing your problem is still the gas block. Need a low pro, non clamp on of some sort. BCM, DD, Troy, etc.
Just to make it make a little more sense, and so you understand what we are saying. Set the rail completely flat on the table or work bench. Hold the rail firmly flat on the table. Move the barrel like you were before. This will give you piece of mind that the rail is still not moving but the barrel is.
Any chance they sent you a MK12 gas block instead? It mentions in the description that the MK12 block will have clearance issues on all their rails besides the RIS II.
So you don’t have everything permanently installed and locked down and you’re worried about flex? My advice is to install everything properly before checking for rail flex. I understand why you’re doing this given the problems you had with gas blocks, but now that you have one that will fit put things together properly before fretting about rail flex.

I sure hope the .05"ish that the barrel nut will move when fully torqueing it tightens everything up (no sarcasm). Ill update when I get my reaction rod back.
On a side note, any of you DD V11 owners check for this, say when you sling up for a long shot, load a bipod, or shoot off a barrier. There really is very little room in there.
