I’d like to get the typical poop on the Daniel Defense Omega Rail System. Also, how it would compare to the DD M4 rail system. Good, bad, ugly or otherwise. Thanks.
I like the two that I run quite a bit: fairly light, slim profile, DD quality, easy install, and rotation limited QD sling swivel attachment points… what’s not to like? The price isn’t terrible either.
i have two 7.0s thinking about buying a 9.0 or two, but i want a DD Lite FSPM as well.
agree with MattDanger, there’s a lot to like about the omega rails.
Here’s my meager understanding:
They are a true FF rail. They are rock solid. They can be installed in minutes with no permanent modification to the weapon whatsoever. The top rail of the DD system is level with the top of the A3’s railed upper, giving you an almost monolithic rail platform.
As far as I can tell they are the heat and you’re not giving anything up by having the Omega vs. the M4 rails or the other configs as far as function goes.
I don’t think you can go wrong with ANY of DD’s products.
Personally I would like to see an Omega type rail that fits around the FSB sort of like their Lite 12.0 FSP.
I have seen a few of the DD rails and they look good. I need a 9" model for my Noveske N4 barrel with Switchblock and I have been leaning heavily towards one of these. I have found a few for about 250-270.00 price range. Thanks for the dope I think I will be going for it.
I have a 7.0 and it is GTG - not really any reason for any other type of FF in that length, IMO…
+1 on the 7.0 and 9.0 being GTG. Maybe not as light weight as the LITE series. But definitely quality. I would not hesitate to buy more, and they are definitely top of the heap as far as drop-ins go!
Just my opinion.

I’ve been using a 7.0 on my 6920 since they came out last year and loved it enough to buy two more for my LMT uppers that are on order.
get the Omega 7 as fast as you can. There is a little time on setting the allen head screws into the barrel nut because you can basically only get 1/4 turns unless you had some type of ratcheting allen head that fit. Very very small allen wrench but otherwise a solidly fitting unit. I did not add blue loctite to mine as I’m planning on getting a lo-pro gas block and the 9.0 for room and wanted to be able to remove the rail at a later date. Otherwise, it is GTG. It fits extremely tight to my LMT and am glad I have it. Here’s a few shots to show you it’s versatility.

I really like my 9.0 especially the shape of it - it has a great feel IMO.
Not to derail but…agreed! I’d love to see a 9.5FSP Omega…just in case any of you DD guys are out there reading this.
ETA: On second thought, the need for removal of the HG cap to install a rail that covers the FSB negates simple install of the Omega rails ![]()
I like the Omega quite a bit. I own both a 7.0 and 9.0. They are rock solid and easy to install. The only complaint I have is that they don’t have the rail slot right after the previous rail slot on the upper receiver like the light rail. Other then that they are hard to beat.
Something that I came across this past weekend…
The side rails are smaller than the handguard cap. What this means is that a slip-on rail cover like the Tango Down or Knight’s will not work. Enter the Magpul XTM snap-on covers. Except that they won’t fit in the areas where the flat-head screws are.
So, if you’re not looking for anything other than ladder-style rail covers on the sides, it’s a non-issue, but if you want any of the hard-plastic covers you may have problems.
I personally think this is largely a non-issue, but some people may be surprised to discover the above post-purchase so I thought I’d toss it out there.
I’ve been using Knight’s on mine since I installed it.
I’m running Knights panels on the left and right sides of Noveske N4 Basic with the DD Omega 7.0. The panels only lock into place at the forward most space - for my setup it’s fine, but I can see how it would be irritating to those running light mounts at the forward end.
It’s hard to beat the Omega on any rifle with a fixed front sight base, it took me maybe two mins to install and I had never really messed around with upper receivers and handguards before.
How did you slide them on past the cap?

It is one of the best rail systems out there.

I’m willing to cut the handguard cap to have the extra rail space.
The Magpul XTM covers fit over my screws just fine.
Hmm, maybe the one that I saw last weekend the screws weren’t fully seated. On this one the screws definitely stood up too high for the XTM to snap shut over them.
