Are their two sizes?
I see the one one BCM’s site is being marked as “tall”
While others are not marked as anything in their descriptions.
Also some say LOWER THIRD CW MICRO and others don’t…
It’s the same mount, lower 1/3 CW
The “Tall” and “Lower 1/3 Cowitness” are both the same mount.
My understanding is that DD plans to make another variant, but no details have been released on this, yet.
Is there a reason besides cost to get this instead of a Larue 660 or another lightweight QD?
The Larue only weighs an ounce more, so even though I’m a BIG weight-nut (all about cutting weight), I can’t justify switching (plus I can put an extra battery under the Larue mount, leaving room in the grip for other stuff–which I might put there if needed, but don’t at the moment since, again, I’m a weight nut).
If you don’t have use for a QD option then I imagine that the mount being cheaper and lighter is a good option. Considering getting the DD mount for around $65 shipped is not hard if one shops around and you can go even less. The Larue is going to run you a little more than $40 on average, not sure about other QD mounts out there. Not trashing Larue, have two of their mounts and have been very pleased with them but the mission does drive gear and some out there don’t care for the QD options. .
