DD M4V7 slw... anyone?

Been looking for a better then average quality gun to keep close at hand and was wanting something particularly light and easy to deal with both for me and my lady and noticed this gun has both a 14.5 barrel and a mid length gas system as well as being under 6 pounds which sounds quite promising considering I can get it for a very good price. Anyone with any experience on these particularly related to the barrel profile and it’s robustness ? I’ve been extremely impressed when shooting a DDM4V7 previously but that had a heavy profile 18” barrel and a rifle length gas system… more of a DMR type gun. It would be replacing a old M&P 15 sport.

I was looking at the v7 slw along with BCM’ s 14.5 upper. I ultimately went with the BCM. But I was able to use a friend’s v7 slw. It handles well, recoil was negligible, and shots didn’t open up as things heated up. If you’re looking to get the v7 slw I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If I was looking to get another upper I would not hesitate to get it. The BCM just came in at a better price.

Thank you that’s exactly the feedback I’m looking for and this is going to be a keep close at hand tool just in case rather then a gun that gets 1000 rounds through it so I’m confident that it should be a good choice. I’ve never owned a DD before so it should be interesting.

I have a few DD rifles. They are great. And if you ever need anything from DD, they will take care of you.

What is “a very good price” ? I ask because you could do an ELW upper from BCM and a BCM lower from Grant for less than 14 hundred.

1500 NIB …

You might find this thread particularly interesting: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?199028-Opinion-on-lightweight-barrels

In short, I have over 4 thousand rounds through my V7 SLW now and it has run completely flawlessly. And by flawlessly I mean not a SINGLE malfunction. No failure to feed, failure to extract, light primer strikes…nothing. It has become my do-everything rifle and the most fun to shoot out of the six AR-15’s that I own.

Thank you for your advice this actually makes it easy for me as the rifle in question has a factory installed and pinned brake rather then the standard DD FH … it’s looking like a no brainer here. All I will be adding is a light and a red dot.

You may want to also budget for an aftermarket trigger. The trigger that came on my particular rifle was pretty typical of a standard milspec; really heavy and a little gritty. The good news is, is that there are a lot of good options for triggers now that come in at under a hundred dollars.

I would avoid DD due to their questionable business decisions of late. It if was a choice between BCM and DD I would choose BCM every time.

This is sound advice, bad public relations should hurt.

I’m afraid I might be behind the curve on this issue … is there some controversy regarding DD .?

I don’t think so. Some guys got mad because DD laid off some people rather than lower their prices to stay in business.

The owner Marty Daniels cams out in support of the recently passed anti gun law called Fix NICS via the Omnibus spending bill, thanks in part to Stable Genius TM, FUDD NRA, and People like Smartie Marty, after significant backlash from DD’s fans and detractors alike, Mr. Daniels issued a retraction/apology letter. A lot of folks aren’t sure whether to treat DD like Troy Ind, or welcome them back into the fold with open arms.

Here’s the thing, DD’s guns cost anywhere from $1,500-$1,700 now and IMO are not worth that. Why not just get a KAC for just a touch more $$$, which is by leaps and bounds a better gun.

I purchased a DD M4V7 when they first came out, in fact they weren’t in stock and I don’t believe at that exact time the SLW was an option when I ordered.
I paid $1500 OTD and I’ve been happy with it ever since, so happy in fact, that I cannot recommend this particular model enough.
Bear in mind though that DD has went through numerous changes since then and your gun, SLW or not will be different than mine.
I do not fault Mr Daniels for anything he has said and since then retracted, I will accept that sometimes we are pressured to speak before all the facts are in and it takes a Man to admit when he is wrong and Mr Marty Daniels did just that.

I like KAC a lot in fact I’ve just bought a sr-25 acc needless to say for another application. But as for the DD this particular gun has come up at my LGS at a particularly good price point being a canceled order and is going to be lighter and more suitable for its intended purpose then a sr-15 and probably $900 cheaper.

Imo, spend a couple hundred more and get a Stoner Rifle

At those price points I’d buy a BCM all day and if I were spending more than that I’d just buy a KAC. DD offers nothing over either of those two options and they aren’t as over priced.
