My first desire was get the 6920 and then but the omega 12.0 rail on the Colt, then I was thinking to just get the 6940.
However after looking around more I am thinking of getting the DD M4. However I am curious how it compares to the Colt 6920 in terms of their quality. From all that I have read folks are pretty high on them, however are there any short comings?
I have a DDM4 and love it. As far as I know, the DDM4 compares quality wise to the Colt, although there are many many more Colt’s out there with many many more rounds through them than any DDM4 at least that I am aware of. Specs wise though they both have all the MPI/HP testing on the parts that need them. I wouldn’t hesitate to go with any of them.
FWIW, a fourth option one might consider the 6920 with the DD Omega 7.0, since just the 6920 vs. the two railed rifles isn’t quite a straight across comparison.
The monolithic upper on the 6940 is pretty cool, but I don’t think it’s worth the difference, and it is proprietary.
$1100 for the 6920 plus $256 for the DD Omega 7.0 totals just $1356, and Grant may offer a M4C discount to members for the DDO 7.0.
The DDM4 is an excellent rifle, and built with true attention to detail (it even comes with an H buffer included). For the money, the DDM4 is definitely the most bang for the buck.
As I noted earlier, the DDM4 is a lot of rifle for the money any way you slice it. The 6920 plus DD options is also a reasonable deal – for another $110 or so. The 6940 as optioned is a $200 difference from the DDM4 and offers some bragging rights, but little else for the money.
Don’t forget the cost of having someone wrench the 12.0 rail on your 6920. I bought a 6920 back in February and I’ve said this before, if that DD M4 Rifle was available I would have bought it. Quality wise they’re equal but if you want the colt name then go with the Colt.
If I had to choose between the two I would go DDM4 it has the omega rail, Magpul stock, P Mag, DD rear sight, DD QD end plate, and by most accounts a better factory trigger. I decided to get one of each, The DDM4 has been completely accessorized minus the mount for the Aimpoint ML3. The 6920 is going to be my Kiss carbine just plan on changing out the stock, grip and adding an RDS.
As far as quality I think if memory serves the DDM4 is almost Identical in how it stacks up on the “chart”.
The Colt 6920 is a great weapon. I’m just not warming up to the 6940 as I feel there are better options out there for the cash.
All that being said I would buy the DDM4 over the others. If the DDM4 was a mid-length, I would find it hard to have a need for any other rifle, other than my SBR’s.
