DD chrome plated BCG

Just saw this on the DD website while looking to pick up a spare BCG for my M4V3.

https://danieldefense.com/components-parts/upper-half/small-parts/complete-bolt-carrier-group-chrome-plated-5-56mm.html

Anybody see these DD chrome plated BCGs in person? Is anybody running one? If so, thoughts/impressions?

Ran a few searches and didn’t come up with anything.

I think I might try to pick one up to see how it compares to my standard DD BCG. Even if the only benefit is easier cleaning, that’s fine by me.

Nice find!!! Sorry though, i have no answers for you…

Haha thanks man. No worries.

Yeah I saw that the thread had quite a few views but no thoughts so I’m more than happy to be the guinea pig on this one. I’ll probably give them a call here in the next few days to see if I can get my hands on one and snap some photos/take it to the range.

Yeah, I would be willing to bet it would be GTG anyway and even if it wasnt DD would take care of you. This is really interesting because in another thread i saw a DD rep say that they just purchased some property in South Carolina where they’re either going to or are already doing their own hard chroming, heat treat etc…

If I didnt just order a new MWS barrel i would be all over this thing since its from DD. Most will say i’m stupid but I think it would be even nicer if they lightly etched their logo on the carrier like their older standard carriers. That way at least when resold there will be no question about the manufacturer. Ive never owned a chromed 5.56 bolt but next payday I’m probably going to try this out.

If you get one make sure you post some pics and thoughts…

Since DD bcgs are selling for $130 at AIM, I will wait and see if these go down to $150, otherwise I will not bother.

Yeah, I didn’t even notice the price. $200 seems a little steep but maybe they’ll be cheaper when sold from a dealer. Although, these are kind of a specialty item and I don’t think that’s too bad of a price. That’s about the max I would pay for it.

I’m a little interested in this as well. I trust DD quality and I should be able to get one at dealer cost once they have them in stock. I may give one a try…

Hummmm, def an attention grabber! But yeah sorry man, I’ve got nothin, just saw what you saw on their site. I wouldn’t be too intimidated by their list price. My DD never fails me so I’d be confident!

Minor nitpick:

The site specifies they’re MPT’ed. No mention of HPTing, though.

Whats funny is all the “COLT/DD/LMT” boys talking about how the chrome or NIB bolts are a waste and a gimmick. DD makes them, Cant wait to see they do a 180.

I still think it is a gimmick…

At least somewhere underneath all that coating is a high quality bolt and carrier.

I was following all of the NiB threads. I think the biggest plus here is knowing that the bolt underneath is GTG. As long as DD accounted for any thickness that is added, this should be a good product. Maybe it will make cleaning a little easier, maybe not. Slip 2000 and especially FrogLube on my standard BCM and Noveske BCGs has made the quick wipe down the only cleaning I do anyway

When I get a little side cash I’ll pick one up and take it for a spin. The pic on their site almost looks shopped, the finish is too clean and perfect haha!

I’d rather have a chrome BCG than any whale jizz coating.

Chrome is original to the AR-15 and it does make it slicker and easier to wipe clean.

Unless it’s a DPMS chrome BCG being sold by DD, $200 seems like an okay price. A Young’s MFG chrome BCG is well over $200, so this doesn’t seem so bad. A Young’s BCG is REEEL NICE though. Make sure you say “REEEL NICE” like cousin Eddie, or it loses all meaning. I love my Young’s chrome BCG and so does everyone I know who owns one.

I think you’re dead on with that. I thought the very same. Still awaiting a call back regarding when I can pick one up. Everyone is probably tied up with SHOT.

I thought it looked amazing as well but i never thought of photo-shopping. Either way i’m sure it will be GTG.

Turret: I’m a DD fanboi and you wont find me saying chrome plated BCG’s are dumb. In all honesty I dont think it’s necessary but i believe its an improvement. The only chromed BCG I own right now is the factory LMT MWS BCG but I see myself purchasing one of these.

On a side note, does anyone offer nitrocarburized BCG’s?

Looks like a 3D render the more I look at it. I would imagine this is something they are debuting at SHOT so if someone is there maybe they can get the lowdown for us.

How do you feel about chrome’s ability to hold lube?

The only real negative I’ve seen with chromed BCGs is that they don’t seem to “soak up lube and keep it there” like a properly phosphated BCG tends to do.

Thanks for pointing that out. Seems that some people are forgetting the original specs and why it was done away with.

Kind of like the whole poo-poo lightweight barrel crowd.

How much carbon sticks to the chrome BCG?
