I am getting ready to swipe the CC for a T-1 for my DDM4. It has the stock DD BUIS. What is the sight picture or maybe my question is how do I use the DD BUIS with the T-1? Do I sight through the large aperture? Would the sight picture be less cluttered with a flip up or do I just focus on the dot and ignore the BUIS?
I know the front sight goes out of focus looking through the T-1, however my Google-fu must be off because I am having problems (or not phrasing my question correctly) finding any useful hits regarding the BUIS.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Based on the picture of the VIckers/DDM4 it must work OK.
To follow-up, this is my first RDS. I am currently running a TR24. I have always used traditional (?) scopes because that is what I had since I was a kid and is what I am most comfortable using. After much reading I think the T-1 might be more versatile on a patrol rifle.
If you are using a mount with a lower 1/3 co-witness like the LaRue or the DD mount, you won’t have any trouble using the DD BUIS. You will look over the top of the iron sights and through the RDS. If the RDS fails you just adjust your head slightly and look through the iron sights.
Once you have everything mounted up it will be plain as day.
While generally I prefer folding sights, the DD is a solid choice. It will serve you well.
I went with the DD 1.5/T1 on my latest gun. The way I see it, I don’t want to have to mess with anything while in the act of using my gun, and the fixed BUIS is more reliable.
It also reflects my new philosophy on carbines. I’ve screwed around with so many ergo options which ended up improving nothing, I’ve decided to adapt to the most reliable system possible, rather than trying to force the machine to adapt to me…
