DBM's

Toying with the idea of getting one of my bolt rifles inltted for a dbm. All my bolt rifles are bdl configurated right now.

Looks like its gonna be a 300-400$ job, seems like alot of $ for some freaking bottom metal.

Is it worth it?

You have to ask yourself that. What are you going to be doing with it? It’s a great feature to have if doing competitions where you need to engage multiples under time and it (depending on skill) maybe faster reloading, normally it is. On a working gun, the same condition may warrant it or even in order to change a round type if required to engage through a medium.
I have a couple DBM’s currently and also debated it on a 6.5 CM I’m having built and stayed with a BDL because it’s just a paper puncher and steel ringer.

Do your homework on which one you want and have it done properly.
I’m guessing Rem 700?

Hooper Ordnance makes one and it’s nice, he is reasonable and inlets for it as well.

SAC, Mark Gordon uses APA, he is a great Smith also.

CDI is another

I like the Seekins Precision and will use it on a future something. Unless I do the Eberlestock chassis

In the end, if you want it, just get it if you have the money and use actual AI mags if on a 700

FN is starting to outfit the SPR line with their new bottom metal which uses their 5 or 10 round magazines and the inlet is identical to the current FN DBM, so if you have that, later this year that will be available separately.

Thanks for replying. Yes its for a 700, l was going to go with cdi and hame him inlet the stock too.

I’m still torn if its worth the money or not so l will probably pass. l dont need the dbms for any reason. lts just shoot steel pretty much.

It can add up fast. I would say most don’t need it, but if you have the money and want it–

PTG has a 100$ shot show special on there new DBM system you will need to call them and ask for it. Not on the site

I just had the CDI DBM installed on my FN, and so far it’s pretty damn slick.

For you FN/Win 70 fans, they will be offering their new DBM separately for sale later this year. It is a direct replacement for the current 4 round DBM inlet and uses the new 5 and 10 round magazine.

If you have no problem using the old system, I’m sure there will be plenty of those for sale when the new ones are released. Manners offers the inlet for that. I would suggest contacting SAC for the work if you need a Smith who handles a lot of FN/Win 70 work.

I wanted the ability to use AI magazines and specifically the Alpha Type 2s that allow COAL of 2.985". I doubt if the FN system will allow for that.

Understood, just putting info out there.

I had badger DBM bottom metal installed on my Rem700 LTR, and thought it was worth it at the time but once I shot enough to know what I wanted I ended up getting a chassis to the action into anyway (I went with the KRG Whiskey-3).

I wish I had just put that money into the chassis up front and gotten the ergonomics I needed + the DBM functionality. Definitely stick with AI magazines. I’m happy I didn’t have to re-invest in mags when I made the switch.

This far and no mention of Surgeon? Best bottom metal in the business. Badger is a close second, but second none the less.

I have played with Badger DBMs and while they are awesome, I just can’t see spending my hard earned mony for a DBM on a bolt gun. YMMV

the choice between badger and surgeon isn’t one of quality, but whether you like the guard that sticks out the bottom or not.

I like them both, but prefer the guard on the surgeon because of the way i shoot from barricades, but I’d guess most of the guys I talk to at matches prefer the flush profile of the badger.

badger (with 10 rnd AW mag) on bottom and surgeon (with 10 rnd AICS mag) on top
