DBAL Illuminator spots

Does anyone else notice several spots in the beam of the DBAL illuminator when it is set to the “flood” (wide angle) position?

It looks like lint or something on the lens is creating several spots. They look like cells when you look through a microscope. I’ve tried cleaning the lens with a Q-tip and glass cleaner with no luck. The spots don’t even move (which makes me think it’s something internal).

Any thoughts ?

Maybe speckle?

picture of the phenomenon?

Can’t get a good pic through my NVG… But it kinda looks like the photo in the link above.

is the head removable? maybe there’s dust on the inside of the lens
