I need new boot socks any one use and like or dislike these? Any model better than another? Was going to buy one of each of three i like to test. Thanks for your time.
I swear by them, so much in fact that we started carrying them.
I mostly wear the Darn Tough 1/4 Ultra-Light Seamless PT Socks, But I mainly wear hiking boots. On the occasion I am wearing full 8 inch boots I wear the 3/4 Crew Ultra-light true seamless Tactical boot socks. i have been wearing darn tough socks exclusively for about 4 years.
One thing I can say is that they are about 1/2 the thickness of normal socks and it makes going back to other socks difficult when you need to do laundry.

- Am I the only one that has ads in the middle of the forum that aren’t industry related? It only pops up on this site, so i assume I do not have a virus.
No!
Can’t remember what mine are called but they’re the tactical boot socks. I’ve had several pairs for 4 years now. I don’t think it’s possible to wear them out
…
I’m not a high speed death machine but I do work on my feet for most of the day and I love mine. If you’re desperate you can alternate between wearing them normally and turning them inside out.
All I wear with my boots too. Cold and out here in Hawaii - they’re awesome. I just use the regular boot sock. I like their cushioned PT sock too.

All I wear/ can’t go back.
They are definitely worth it.
I have 3 pairs… Two hiking and one low running, all the wool blend… I wanted to love them (garrantee) but they all are too tight, bind or bunch above my ankle, at the point where my foot and leg meet… I can ignore it but my Rei, point 6 and Smartwool fit so much more comfortably
I have a pair and plan to get some more. I feel that they hold up better than the smart wool offerings. Bah, those ads!! WTF?
I used to be a SmartWool guy, but I have not turned back after trying Darn Tough socks. They’re the best! I even tried the no-show athletic variety and those are also better than similar offerings from other companies.
I have some and I really like them. They definitely seem to be “Darn Tough”.
However, they do not seem to be as comfortable as Smartwool and Fits socks (or the half-dozen Puma-branded mini crews I bought from Costco a couple years ago for PT - that have since been retired in favor of more Smartwools) do to me. So I alternate between my tougher than nails Darn Toughs and my softer, more comfortable Smartwools.
I wear crew Smartwools PHD’s with hiking boots and micros with sneakers. I love them and mine haven’t shown any wear at all and they are worn daily. Sockaddict is a great place to buy. For you guys that said your Smartwools didn’t hold up, which type and where did they fail and or wear out? One thing on the Smartwool not sure on the DT’s I had to go up a size they run small on me despite the stated size. I gave my larges to my 11 Y.O. . I wear size 11 wide in shoes and I need the XL’s.
I have several pairs of Smartwool and Darn Tough socks. The Darn Tough just conform to your feet, and the Smartwool seem to want your foot to conform to the sock. They are great and the only socks I wear, except my Nike dri-fit low cuts that I wear running or doing HIIT. When the Nike’s wear out, I’ll replace them with the DT low cuts.
I think you are right about the socks wanting your feet to conform to them but there is a good reason. They way they are cut and the where the wear padding is, you will get the best use if you have them on right. I find a lot of socks like this not just Smartwools but if you don’t have them exactly right they can tend to tug at you. I just give a tug and pull and carry on.
I wear the bates cushion socks for pt and occasionally fits/fox river socks for day to day but darn tough socks are all I wear in the field. The extra cushion socks are my favorite but I havent been disappointed by any products of theirs. Even got my old man wearing em now. I cant recommend a better sock, particularly with hikes.
Which model of there socks if ideal for “duty” wear?
I’ve used smartwools, fits, and darn tough. The darn tough seem to hold up better then the rest.
I love my Darn Toughs. I got my first pair through a contest on their blog when they first released the light hiker micro crew light cushion style. That free pair of socks sure paid off for them, as I now have about 6 or 7 pairs, and I’ve turned on all of my family to them. They’re all big fans as well. DT is the only brand of socks I wear with my mid and high boots. I prefer the hike 1/4 height and the light hiker micro crew (the pair I won). I love taking my socks off at the end of the day and having dry feet.
