I was looking at SMGLee’s pics of Daniel Defense’s SHOT display https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=564074#post564074 and noticed a carbine with a unique set of handguards. 4th pic from the top, the one with an ACOG that has what looks a lot like an A1 triangular handguard left in the microwave. 
Any info or conjecture on the design of these? I don’t particularly care for the look but am wondering if they offer an advantage over the typical handguard or rail system.
This is DD’s new “Ambush” model. It’s chambered in 6.8 and marketed as a hunting rifle.
