Hello everyone. I’m torn between getting a stripped BCM barrel (with the intention of installing a BCM LPGB) or a DD barrel with a pinned low profile gas block. The pinned block is most appealing, but I’m a little concerned about it being pinned on straight. Has anyone had a problem with this? I found one thread about it, but I suppose crooked gas blocks aren’t the norm for DD. On the flip side, should I be at all concerned about a BCM set screw gas block coming loose? Provided I have it installed per BCM’s instructions.

I think DD may have a slight (very slight) edge for accuracy over a std bcm barrel.
BCM may be ported better.
At the end if the day, either is a solid choice and wont hold you back, pick which one is cheaper or you like the marketing of better.
Not sure what your concern is. If DD installs it, it will more than likely be correct. I would consider expanding my horizons and look at some other barrel options as well.

Thanks. I’m slightly concerned that the DD gas block will be crooked enough to contact my slim free float handguard during barrel whip. In that unlikely event, I guess DD would fix it. I’ve looked at Noveske and Larue barrels too. Have given Ballistic Advantage a little thought.
DD is typically regarded as having an edge on accuracy while BCM has better barrel profiles. Either will be fine pending some rare mishap. I wouldn’t spend money on Noveske or Larue, but Sionics, Black River Tactical, and Sons of Liberty Gun Works are also typically held in high regard.

I had a bcm 12.5 barrel a year or so ago and loved it but it was over gassed like crazy
My dad’s 16” DD LW barre consistently shoots tighter groups than my 16” BCM CHF ELW. The difference is slight, but noticeable. That’s not to say the BCM is inaccurate, just less so than the DD with the loads we’ve tested so far.
Admittedly small sample size, but most people seem to get exceptional accuracy out of DD barrels. I’d go with them.
Get a pinned block. If it’s not straight DD will fix it for you - they have a very responsive customer service (or at least used to have a few years back).
Thanks guys. Feeling pretty good about going with DD now. Just gotta decide on a LW or Gov profile now. Shaving a few ounces off the front end sounds nice. I try to keep my builds on the light side. I’ve read LW can be a little less accurate though. Going for a general purpose rifle. Should I just stick with Gov profile?
LW all day every day. The only time the extra weight is truly beneficial is in a SOCOM or other heavy profile, if that serves the purpose that you want. But for GP, I’d say LW.

a couple other questions I have are what length barrel are you wanting and are you going to shoot suppressed
I’m planning on getting a 16" mid length gas barrel. Not planning on using a suppressor.
IMO you’ll be served just fine with either option for a 16” general purpose rifle
