daniel defense omega rail ? free float ?

hello.

im looking at a daniel defense omega rail, 12.0

on daniel’s website says they are free floating, with ZERO modifications to the weapon,

only needs a allen key to install.
this is driving me crazy, now how can that be ? how can it be free floating and not even remove the delta ring, or front sight post.

they are pricy, at 350 dollars, but do they really work as advertise ?

inputt on this ?

thanks

peabody

they clamp onto the barrel nut

Omega Rail Installation Skip to 1:15 to see the installation and for once… it is as easy as seen on youtube.

Will you be removing the FSB and installing a low-pro gas block on say a carbine or midlength? Or will the Omega 12.0 be used with a rifle-length gas system?

While the Omega is a sturdy, free float rail that is easy to install, you may want to consider a different rail with a better “bolt-up” system if you are going to be removing and replacing the FSB.

no, i dont want to change anything on my rifle, yes its a 20’’

i was thinking, these would be ok, just to be able to swap back n’ forth if need be.

but im also wondering if this rail will work with triangular handguard cap ?

i like the ideal, of just popping off my standard guards, and bolting this up, without cutting off the delta ring, or removing FSB,

You are good to go with the Omega rail given your end use. I have an Omega 9.0 on my midlength which has a triangular end cap and there are no issues. The rail never touches the end cap.

Furthermore, Daniel Defense’s own pictures show a triangular end cap with the rifle length…

I have not used a rifle with an Omega 12", but I do know that the Omega 7" (same system, just shorter) locks up tight on my carbine.

thanks guy’s, for my needs, looks like this is my best option. pricy. but hopefully it’ll be worth it.

i really like the DD fixed rear sight too.

It comes with $30+ dollars worth of rail covers, free floats without ANY modification to the host gun, and saves you $35-45 by including integrated qd cups with rotation limiters. If you really need all the railestate it is a bargain. Any quality quad rail system with the same materials and precision machining will be similarly priced.

Why would you have to cut off the delta ring?

some of the rail systems i’ve been looking at require you to cutt off the delta ring, midwest industries i think ? is one of them.

i want something, that i dont have to take anything apart, or cut up.

Because the rail is a two-piece design. The top and bottom pieces clamp around the barrel nut. While I’m not a fan of the two-piece designs, I have to admit that the DD Omega is a very nice option for those who choose to go that route.

I have a 12 inch omega. Very sturdy ZERo wobble and free float.
Liked it so much i bought one for my middie.
I recommend this rail to people who wish for a zero mod drop in free float.

ok, thanks. i do think this DD rail will be the route i’ll go.
i’ve dumped out my piggy bank, [fruit jar, change catcher] , i’ve got 286 dollars,

almost there !!!

then i’ll work on saving up for a DD buis , fixed rear sight.
looks like it’ll have a pretty nice setup, RR lower/two stage trigger,
addax upper, bushy government profile 20’’ barrel 1-7.
a KISS rifle,

I have a Omega 7" rail, and a mk18 risII. I was a little hesitant on it, only because its held tight, basically by 4 set screws(It works great though). If I was looking for a rail, I would get a DD lite rail. Only problem is, your gonna have to take your fsb off. BUt, I would feel more secure with it. Plus, you can find used ones pretty cheap(sometimes under $250)

If folks are worried about the secureness and rigidity of the Omega rail, I suggest they read Eric Rice’s post in the Daniel Defense Omega Rail? thread…

If you are still skeptical, it appears as though a few Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs) trust the Omega to hold up to the rigors and abuse of their job…

Close-up…

Do other rails have a more secure mounting system? Yes. But the purpose of the Omega is to provide a secure and rigid rail that can be installed without modifications to the host weapon.

well, now that sure puts my fears to rest.
thanks for posting that.

Anybody seen any of the FDE 9.0 rails for sale anywhere?
