Read about DD offering Law Enforcement Only patrol rifle packages last week. But, I haven’t been able to get any details out of DD.
Apparently they are offering a financing option and 4 different rifle/optic packages ranging from the DDM4V1 with a red dot to the DDM4V4 with a red dot and 2.5x16 scope for “designated marksman” duty.
Does anyone have any further information or details on the packages/program?
Under a new program Daniel Defense just launched for law enforcement, police officers (and agencies) can obtain a top-quality patrol rifle with no-interest financing for a year
The financing option said it requires your agency to allow them to debit your check each month. Not sure many cities/counties will be happy to do that for you…
The program begins with the Daniel Defense Basic Patrol Rifle Package, which consists of the Daniel Defense M4 V1 basic model rifle, six Magpul mags, a Bushnell Elite Tactical TRS-25 Red Dot optic, and an Uncle Mike’s Rifle Assault Bag.
Poor choice supplying a low end optic on a patrol rifle.
Most agencies are not going to authorize something like that. I would rather see a package with an Aimpoint PRO for a bit more, or just a standard carry handle.
The reason they are doing the payroll deduction is to make sure they get paid for the rifle. Hell they are financing the rifle for free. How is that a bad deal.
I am not excited about the optics choice but when I spoke to them at the NTOA conference they stated the optic has proven the be reliable and that the was a top tier military group that just order a crap load of the bushnell red dots. According to the reps the RDS is parallax free like an aimpoint and eotech.
Your payroll should have a routing sheet for this. If you set up automatic deductions for your union and or FOP dues, it’s no different. They generally will have one to start it and one to stop it or may be able to do that on one.
Saw the PoliceOne article. But getting particulars out of DD has been tough. I have emailed Brent Slaughter at DD who was interviewed for the article. We’ll see what he has to say. I’ve also asked if they are offering the finance option on standard rifles rather than just the LE packages for those who wish to choose their own optics etc.
Brent is coming to our range next week for a demo. I will ask him some more particulars. I do believe however the police packages are set and arent changable.
At best, I think the information you were given is misleading. I do think its possible that a non-US military group went with Bushnell, but not our guys. Olympic Arms has proudly provided weapons to similar groups.
Lots of reviews of the Bushnell. Lots of people like them on their 20 ga. or their .357. But, even the positive reviews mention dot shape inconsistency, blur, halo, misaligned lenses, etc. QC sort of stuff. After a couple of returns those get it right and get good reviews. But, for a duty weapon, it should be 100% out of the box and stay pretty close to 100% from there on out. As one reviewer put it: “This is an AWESOME $79.00 red dot. Not an awesome red-dot, but an awesome $79.00 red-dot.” You get what you pay for.
I agree that I wouldn’t expect that sort of value assessment from Daniel Defense. However, they’re approaching a market that is not necessarily as gun savvy as you might expect. To many, the AR is like a hammer; they all hit the nail the same. So, when that officer sees that he/she can get an “X” brand AR with rails, a “X” brand weapon-light, an “X” brand laser, an “X” brand red-dot, and a mean looking scroll mark for under $1000, and then they see the Daniel Defense XVEZ at $1368 MSRP, then you add an Eotech or Aimpoint at $500, a decent light, switch etc, for $175; those guys are out.
The select few of us LE that find a site like this, and the selecter fewer who take the time to read, research, and consider the myriad of choices out there are still excited that DD is offering the program despite the optic choice. Heck, the TRS-25’s are going for $45 on Fleabay. That’ll get you started toward a decent optic. In the mean time, learn to shoot irons.
What baffles me is that DD makes products for discerning folks, and yet they choose to bundle their great product with products that are mediocre at best.
Doesn’t make sense, to me anyway.
I second that. That would be a great marketing partnership for both DD and Aimpoint. Aimpoint is really advertising the PRO, seems like every LE magazine I read has an ad or too in it.
I just hope DD delivers on a good discount and not just a 5% off MSRP type thing.
I am in no way supporting the use of the Bushnell sight. I was just passing along what I was told. I definitly think DD could have gone with a better optic to sell to LE, or anyone else for that matter.
FWIW I called yesterday and talked to one of thier CS reps about the program. He said the article/announcement was a bit premature. He asked me to email him and that they would email the specifics out when they had it put togther in a day or two.
