Daniel Defense KeyMod bipod adaptor

Has anyone tried the DD KeyMod bipod adaptor? I’ve been looking at my options and while I’m sure they all serve the purpose, none of them seem very satisfying to me. Although I’m a Noveske Kool-aid drinker, their sling stud seems a little too simple and minimalistic to truly provide any heavy duty use. I mean it has one point of contact and it seems like any leverage applied to the rail through bipod use could pull out the stud. The same goes for the IWC model. The PWS one is flat out ugly. The only other one that come close to the DD model is the Odin Works K-Pod adaptor, which seems to be ok. The main difference I notice with the DD on is that there are small studs on the back side that will aid in keeping the unit sturdy and the overall engineering of the unit seems to be much more thought out.

The one issue with the DD model is the $50 price tag…

What are your guy’s opinions and experiences?

I think a picatinny mounting bipod like the Larue or Atlas QD versions + a rail panel are the best way to go so that you can move/remove the bipod around to different guns as necessary, so on all my keymod guns I still just run a pic rail piece towards the barrel end at 12 o’clock.

Ive never had any issues with the IWC model. Stud stays in there. That being said, ive always been a DD guy, but im not too sure id drop cash on this mount if the IWC one does the job for cheap.

I see what you’re going for here, but adapting to a pic rail then another adaptor defeats the purpose of keymod IMO. Plus, this is my only AR, and I don’t plan on moving this.

I just feel like one stud is not enough area to spread the force out along the rail in a drop scenario. The bipod is not a small accessory and the lateral force applied in a 4-5 foot drop could either rip the stud out or dislodge it from its slot. Most accessory lights have more than one slot attachment point, so if they need that amount of anchorage, why wouldn’t a bipod need it too?

No second adapter. My bipods have integral pic mounts.

I guess I should have mentioned I have a Harris style bipod, so I would need two adapters to achieve what you did with just a pic rail.

What difference does it make if you don’t leave the bi pod mounted 100% of the time?? I have a cheap imitation Harris, a cheap pic adapter and a cheap plastic rail section. Works fine for occasional use sighting in a rifle and takes all of two minutes to install. If it turns your crank to leave it on your rifle spend the $50. A lot of band width going down the drain here.

I’ve used the IWC adapter on magpul furniture with no issues at all. I haven’t yet added a bipod mount to my DD, but would consider the IWC mount when/ if the time comes.

I have the DD KM bipod adapter on my DDM4 V11 S2W with the 15" slim rail. I refuse to use a rail adapter and then a bipod adapter on top of that as long as I can do better.

I want to see someone producing both MLOK/Keymod direct attach QD bipods. The same type of QD levers used on scope mounts could be repurposed to stand vertically and twisted to properly set the backer/cam nut then flip up the lever to lock in. Flip down the lever to release the bipod…no adapter and minimal change to pre-existing designs.

Mind posting a pic?

Did you have to take the rail off to attach the bipod adapter?

Thanks.

I did not have to take the rail off to attach the DD bipod adapter. I do not know how to post a picture.

I have a PWS adapter on mine and it’s good to go. $22

Good enough. That answered my basic question.

I used the Noveske stud on a Troy rail originally, then moved it over the the KMR rail. Worked fine of occasional use, but like the OP didn’t really satisfy my impressions of solid long term or heavy use…in other words, no problems with bench use, but maybe not so much for real world use in the field. Could be wrong I guess, though. Anyway, I wound up getting an Atlas PSR with Larue Mount, which mounts on every rail I have other than the KMR, and am using a short 2" rail section on the KMR to mount to on the rare occasion I need it on that particular rifle.

Which, doesn’t really help I guess, but I agree with the other poster who mentioned if only for occasional use, the Noveske/IWC should be fine, but for heavy/full time/extended use, go ahead and spring for the DD or any of the other 2 hole mounts. But, imo when you start talking about full time/heavyduty use, I would think carefully about KMR vs Traditional QR anyway.

What bipod are you guys using with these style mounts?

I was wanting to get an atlas but I can not see anywhere that they use this style of mounting?

I use a Harris 6"-9" swivel on my DD keymod adapter on my 15" Slim rail.
