Daniel Defense A1.5 Rear Sight

After zeroing one of my 16" carbines at 50 yards and shooting a few hundred rounds at various ranges, several times the POI would be off to the left sometimes by an inch or more depending on the distance. After inspecting the sights, I noticed that the DD A1.5 rear aperature could be moved side to side by 3/16" of an inch by pressing on either end of the screw. I’ve initiated contact with DD and am waiting on a response, which I expect to be positive in taking care of the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? This may be an older DD sight as it does not have their logo on the left side, only the right.

This movement may be normal. If the DD BUIS uses standard A1 rear sight hardware, in the same manner as the A1 rear sight is assembled, then this side-to-side play is typical.

On some rifles with the A1 rear sight, the adjustment detent and spring pushes the rear aperture to one side. You can push the windage adjustment to the left, and it’ll spring back to the right.

This one stays at whichever side it is pushed to.

I’ve seen this before. I’ve had some A1 sights that would spring back, and others that needed a slight nudge. You could try a bit of CLP.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a try.

Received e-mail from Daniel Defense this morning. As expected, new sight on the way at no charge.

Great customer service!

Good deal!

I’m interested if the new sight will have play in it as well. Did DD comment on the play in your current sight?

After reading this post I checked my DDM4 and it also has a small amount of play if you press from the screw side. Maybe an 1/8 of an inch.
It stays when pushed .

My rifle is a very early serial number so this is an older DD sight, does not have their logo on the left side, only the right.

I rarely shoot over 100 yards, and haven’t even noticed it until I saw this post.
I’d planned on replacing it with a troy anyway, so no problem.

Anyway Singlestack, You are not alone.

Daniel Defense stated that the side to side play is definitely not normal.

This is the rear sight from my C7 upper. Here you can see the movement I mentioned above, and you can see how the windage detent spring forces the aperture back to the right.

I have the same problem as the OP. Joe at DD has offered to either fix or replace.

New sight just arrived from Daniel Defense. No side to side play at all.

Great customer service!

Excellent!

I’m glad to hear the DD design worked out the typical play found in the standard A1 rear sight.

I had one with side to side play also. DD took care of it and replaced it. Already sent back old one s I don’t know if it only had logo on one side.

Kudos to DD, nobody perfect, but they made it right.

I just checked my DD A1.5 sight and it also has side to side play. Thanks for making this thread Singlestack, I might not otherwise have noticed. I’ve only shot with it twice so far and I’m not the greatest shot so I didn’t notice any shift in POI. Mine also only has the logo on the right side of the sight.

Just sent and email to DD, I’m sure they’ll take care of me like they did for the rest of you.

Wow, I’m glad I checked this thread. I have a really low serial number (AJB0000x) . I checked my A1.5 sight and it has the same play from left to right. If you push on either side of the pin that holds the rear aperture, you can see it move side to side, about an 1/8"! I emailed DD just now. Hopefully they’ll take care of it?

They will take care of it without question.

tag. I just ordered some from bravo co so I hope they are not defective.

I will have to check mine out too. I am a huge fan of the A1 sight and when I saw that DD was making these I got one ASAP. I really like them.

just received mine today from bravo co and it has a small amount of play. Looks like they all have it. Is that an issue ?
