Back around 2005 in Colombia I collocated with some AF pilots. They had been issued pristine, new looking slick A1s from the AF. Like the AF literally had new guns like this still in inventory to pass out.
When I was in the USAF stationed at Nellis AFB, Nevada we had a munitions storage igloo (in the bomb dump) that contained crates of M16’s that mainly just sat there, year after year. They were intended for contingency use, and I would imagine for Security Forces also. I believe Supply came out once or twice a year for an inventory. Probably the same for various other bases around the USAF.
Sam Worthington narrates this documentary about the Battle of Long Tan. He’s also an executive producer for the upcoming movie. The documentary is an hour and forty minutes long, but definitely worth watching. 13 minutes into the video one of the participants talks about firing upon a group of VC with his Armalite.

I watched it the other day, I though it was OK, a few things like lack of light discipline are a little hard to swallow, and it slams the Brigadier pretty hard but he deserved it. From what I can tell upper level leadership failures are why it appears the story was covered up for many years. The real back story is pretty interesting, they had intel about the attack coming but it wasn’t believed so they hung Delta company out to dry. I liked The Odd Angry Shot better but that was a movie about a whole tour of duty vs this which covers one battle. I would like to see a story about the Koreans because I know someone who served near them and he told me they scared the shit out of the VC who didn’t like to mess with them.
Watched about half last night, the movies sound engineer should have been the first casualty!

Yeah, the sound was terrible. I almost turned it off because of it.
Debated watching it, just did. I thought it was a good honor to the men who were there, not knowing the backstory.
