Damnit!

I recall when the T-1/H-1 first came out and people were complaining that the screws stripped out when trying to remove them to install a Larue mount. Got the replacement screws I needed for my mount, tried to remove the scews from the original mount and three of the four stripped out.

What’s the cure for this?

Depending on how bad, you might have to drill and tap them out.

send it to aimpoint - they’ll take care of it.

x2…

Kinda figured that, but was hoping to use the optic on Saturday. Guess that’s out. Nuts.

which part of the screw is stripped?

First, did you use the included wrench? Then, did you heat the screws up (as they have loctite on them).

C4

Send it to John at Aimpoint; he fixed mine.

Two weeks ago, I took possession of a brand new H-1, and the screws backed out without any issues. There was definitely some sort of tan colored residue (thread locker) on the screws.

You must have gotten one that was put together by the gorilla on the assembly line.

did the head strip or the threads strip ?

Head.

First, did you use the included wrench?

yes

Then, did you heat the screws up (as they have loctite on them).

No. This isn’t the first Aimpoint Micro I’ve worked with, and the first screw even on this one came out without issue. The screws are also obnoxiously soft as they stripped with very little effort and were essentially completely ruined on the first slip.

I know Aimpoint will resolve it, it’s just aggravating to have something like this happen two days before a class. I have plenty of other options to get me through.

if it is just the head, you can get a screw ectractor set. the good ones are short agressive left turn spiral spurs. tap them in the fole with a small hammer and turn them with a socket and ratchet.

If you REALLY want to avoid snding the unit back this is the way to go.

I had the same thing happen on a Comp M4. I used a grabit (or lowes brand similar screw extractor). The included wrench sucks, professional Allen wrenches fit much better. The reason so many people strip screws is because the factory wrench fits the screw head so poorly.

I had a similar experience with the factory screws on a Trijicon ACOG last year. I stripped them pretty bad and couldn’t even get the “damaged screw head bit” to bite and reverse them out. I was moments away from boxing the whole thing up and sending it to Trijicon.

Instead, I dremeled a flat-head trough into the head of the damaged hex-head screw so I could gain leverage and heated the sucker back up. Worked like a charm.
