A father in Tennessee was arrested for trying to pick up his kids. He was told it is school policy that he stand in line with the cars. The problem? He walked to the school. Why do we continue to put up with people in positions of authority that lack common sense.
I saw this video and it is nuts. It’s like the state owns your children. Our country has become a police state and our children are being institutionalized in the education system.
Im telling you NOW… Im from TN, moved out two years ago. NO PLACE is 100% idiot proof, but TN has some F-UPPED ass stuff going on.
My hometown…FAYETTEVILLE…is THE most backward assed place Ive ever seen. As politically f-upped as anywhere else. IDIOTS ABOUND.
I actually clicked on this, thinking t was PROBABLY Fayetteville.
Time for him to homeschool his kids. But why is that officer getting involved in school business? School policy being mixed with LE isn’t a good thing. I thought these resource officers were there basically for things that happen on campus that fall into criminal matters like students bringing drugs or weapons. They aren’t there to run around getting in parents business for non-criminal matters, and then drum up the ‘catch all’ charge like that? My kids would be out of that school by the end of the week, and then they wouldn’t get the funding for them.
And whats with schools being so universally ****ed up when it comes to designing them to facilitate parent pick up? Every school around here is messed up and so has every school Ive been to. Its like no one ever designs these places knowing theres gonna be a ton of kids and parents all in a short period of time trying to do the same thing. Our kids school doesn’t even have enough parking for the typical day to day functions let alone special events and pickup/drop off is such a mess it can be entertaining at times.
In my kid’s district if you live within 2 miles (aerial) from the school they have to walk or be picked up. Well they put the schools in neighborhoods so the vast majority of kids don’t get bussed. We live 2.1 miles from the school via road but 1.9 aerial so we have to pick up our kids. We aren’t comfortable having them walk or ride bikes since the roads are busy with people going 50MPH next to the sidewalks. Our kids are 7 years old, and I rode my bike to school at that age but it was on a trail not next to a road with people going 50MPH and cross walks, ect.
In this case it looks like with the new policy they were saying he had to sign his kids out from the office, and then wait for the kids to be released which is after all the bussed kids have left. The argument was because their policy technically applies to unsupervised walkers not walkers escorted by their parents he should be able to pick them up well before the bussed kids left. They were acting like he was supposed to wait for his kids to be released with the unsupervised ones.
I personally DGAF…I’ll pickup my kids whenever I want. Schools only have so much authority over kids while they are at school. They don’t own the kids and they don’t get to tell the parents they can’t get their kids. The Deputy here was wigging out because the parent wasn’t respecting the new policy and his authoritah. Like I said LEO’s should not be getting involved in non-criminal school policy issues. He basically made it a criminal matter because he had nothing else…the ‘catch all’ BS crimes like disorderly conduct basically get turned into ‘contempt of cop’ when you didn’t do anything criminal but the cop wants you in jail.
The 1st question is: “Sir, am I suspected of having violated a criminal law?” “No?” “Thank you sir, you’re dismissed.”, then go back to picking up your child.
School administrators in this country need a serious remninder of their place and where their authority ends. If I had school aged kids today, the would not go to a public school, nor would my tax dollars.
The officer let the guy get under his skin. Obviously the policy put in place was flawed and needed to be re-thoughtout. The parent could have waited until the other child walkers were released, it was neither the time nor the place to get into an arguement about it…
No reason why he should have to wait just because the school admin is being dumb. People have places to go and be. If he waits everyday…thats an hour wasted 5 days a week. For what? To appease some idiots?
Unfortunately, In Loco Parentis has been settled for the most part and while on school grounds, the children are the responsibility of the school. Not saying I like it, but it is what it is.
Problem that you run into is the fact parents aren’t demanding the schools relinquish that power by going to the school boards and the legislature and raising hell. Just like the zero tolerance policies, it’s the parents responsibility to make sure the schools aren’t taking control of something that doesn’t belong to them. But try getting a lot of parents to exercise their parental responsibilities these days.
I need to do more research on this, thank you. However, I will say, trying to stop some people from getting to their children will result in a different response than someone acquiescing and compliance.
Problem with it is it’s generally too vague in the wording and varies State to State. And like many government institutions these days, they continue to grab more and more of what they believe they can and generally without any response from the parents. Now I will say this, most parents don’t know about a lot of it until it becomes an issue, so in their defense it’s not an issue until it’s an issue.
Again though, parents should be packing school board meetings full as well as contacting their representatives about how far this has gone. And demanding change back to where they are in control.
