CZ's new short barreled "urban tactical" bolt action

http://cz-usa.com/products/view/550-UCS/

CZ has come out with a rather interesting precision rifle configuration: a 7.62 bolt action built on their mauser-like action, with a 16" super rigid heavy barrel, a detachable mag system, and a Surefire brake included. At $2400 MSRP, it’s a fairly spendy little thing for a production rifle, but they have apparently built it with some quality components. And the whole thing weighs in at only 8.3 pounds. Street price at Bud’s is better, just over $2K.

No idea what this thing shoots like, but CZ builds some accurate rifles. I’ll be interested to see a review.

cool, daddy like

I like the fact it comes with the Surefire brake to attach a suppressor, but I would prefer an 18" barrel. I just don’t think a 7.62 should be shorter than that, that’s just my opinion. I also hope the “Mauser style claw extractor” allows single feeding of rounds like the push feed guns do.

I would like to see some reviews of it too, especially for accuracy out to 600 yds. or more. Hopefully, someone will get one for T&E soon.

My understanding is that you can’t (or at least shouldn’t) feed single rounds into a CRF.

I don’t really see what this rifle brings to the table that a basic Remmy customized to the end user for about the same money doesn’t.

You can if you start with it in the magazine

If the claw extractor is ground right it is no problem to single load and let the extractor snap over the rim. Old Win 70’s will do this all day long. The original Mauser extractors will break if you push one in with the bolt and then force the extractor over the rim while cranking with the bolt handle. I have an old FN commercial and 2 Mark X CF that are ground and will function fine single loaded. FYI Mark X and FN use to sell single shot rifles with CF extractors. FWIW.

This is what I was thinking about when I mentioned single round feeding (without putting it in the mag. first).

Second that emotion. It looks like a cool little rifle, but pretty sure I can put most of those goodies on my LTR and still come in under that tariff.

Matter of fact, had been planning to thread it for a suppressor, but may go SF brake route and then have brakes put on smaller caliber rifles for utility.

Because some of us will take a Mauser style action over a push feed any day of the week.

Could they mount the scope any higher?

Bolt throw is pretty hiigh on CZs

16" is kind of on the short side IMO. Not sure what the reason for going that short would be. Its almost like a precision CQB rifle, and I’m pretty sure I’d rather have a semi auto gas gun for the CQB stuff. I’m old fashioned enough to not want to go below 20" on a bolt gun. I can see going a bit shorter like the 20" so when you add a can your not ginormous on the oal, but don’t see much point past that. What kind of velocity do you guys see with the 18" and below barrels?

I like it minus the short barrel. How much accuracy/range are you giving up with that short of a barrel?

Folks, for everyone questioning the short barrel, I believe it is meant to be suppressed.

A LOT of the countries they sell to allow suppressors without paperwork. My 452 American 16" is temptingly threaded.

You can still get a mauser-style or other CRF action for a fraction of what this costs.

If the main sellling point of this is a mauser-action than CZ pretty much wasted its time.
