Have you handled an NSR rail in real life, Badger?
You should check one out if possible to see that it’s what you want.

Yeah. Be a shame to go through all this and not like the NSR
And I’d also try to find a Switchblock’d upper to try suppressed and unsuppressed. If you’re running on ‘feel’, swapping buffers and shit like that is OK. But I wouldn’t hack up a rail without having some firsthand experience.
No doubt. You could sell it of course… but the NSR is a different rail. If you’re all about light weight, you might like it.
But I remember thinking the Troy Tube thing was the cat’s ass in pictures. Then I handled one. Hated it.
I’m in the same boat, we must be similar kinds of crazy.
Thought I’d hate the DD MFR as well, ended up loving it.
I’ll have to check that rail out. ![]()
It’s nice ![]()

^^^ This. The goals for the rifle is an all-purpose, jack-of-all-trades, combat & defense rifle. Long term reliability and accuracy are paramount, ability to engage targets between 0-400 meters required. Needs to be reliable suppressed and unsuppressed and my goal weight is 7 lbs. with optics (unloaded). I’m trying to shave weight in areas other than the barrel/BCG.
I’ve yet to handle an NSR, but I haven’t found anything else offering the versatility it does. Super lightweight, rails only where you want to put them, and thin. This is big deal for me since I have smaller hands and find normal 4 rail handguards a bit thick for my liking. I only plan to attach a QD swivel and a small light on the handguard anyway (aside from sights/optics on the top rail).
I’m heavily leaning toward the switchblock vs the WAR reciever. I haven’t been able to find enough reviews on the WAR to satisfy me and I don’t want to spend that sort of cash to be a guinnea pig. The WAR may be easier to switch when the rifle’s hot, but I can’t really think of a situation where you’d be taking the time to fiddle with adding/removing a suppressor if you’re dumping mags… Seems like survival would be more of a concern at that point than your gas settings… So with that said, the 9" NSR seems to be a win-win for me. Works with the SB, even lighter than a 13.5" NSR, and I don’t need excessive rail space anyway.
Anyone have a different opinion?
Again, I’d try to get hands on the rail, as well as suppressed and unsuppresed 16" guns if you can. Take note of buffer and ammunition used. The way mine’s set up, I can tailor the minimal amount required via a buffer swap, if I want. I’ve never had a desire or the need for a SB.
I’d hate for you to go through all these gymnastics, just to find that a suppressed setup is fine for you with a standard gas block and an unmolested rail.
Yes it does, I’ve got a 18" NST 3 Gun rifle set up with one for testing this year, so far it is a nice set up. I had Noveske drill the block for a cross pin as well.
